Black Panther

Like most initial solo Marvel hero movies, Black Panther gives us a nice introduction to the character and his motivations above and beyond his introduction in Civil War.

Black Panther introduces us to the MCU version of Wakanda, his family, love interest, and traditions. Also, where those same traditions can fail.

Wakanda as a society has always hidden who and what they are. The world at large sees Wakanda as a third world farming country. Not the technologically advanced, rich country they are. Some Wakandans believe they should go out into the world with their technology and help people while others wish to stick with tradition.

Claw returns and has a sonic hand cannon and is working with War Monger. They show little regard for human life while stealing a Wakandan artifact from a museum. Their attempt to sell it in South Korea to the CIA brings them in direct conflict with the Black Panther.

War Monger takes extraordinary steps (many evil steps) to get into Wakanda. You want to completely dislike the character. But. His backstory makes him a sympathetic character. Up to a point. War Monger’s ideals to spread Wakandan weaponry and begin an Empire are in direct conflict with the Black Panther and Wakandan tradition.

The fight between War Monger and Black Panther ultimately splits the Wakandan people over tradition and new ideals. There will be a lot of healing needed for the Wakandan people. And a change in tradition.

The mid credits scene lets us see how Wakanda will be interacting with the world at large now. The post credits scene gives us a nice update on characters last seen in Civil War.

My favorite character introduced by far is Shuri, T’Challa’s sister. She brought a fun lightheartedness take on the role. Okoye was just plain badass.

There were a lot of kids at the theater when I saw this movie. They all had a blast. This one group sitting near me had all of them picking which Marvel hero they were going to be. From Black Panther to Iron Man. Then the movie started….and all the kids were so engrossed in the movie. I have never seen a movie where kids were so behaved and engrossed in a movie.

Pets of the Week February 19, 2018

Charlie will dance his way into your heart from the moment you meet him. A recent graduate of the Pawsitive Prison Program, this 3-year-old black-and-white terrier mix has proved just how intelligent and determined he is by learning 27 different commands, including “roll over,” “speak,” and ‘do a little dance.” Charlie has a charming, playful personality that will keep you laughing from sunup ‘til sundown. He’s a fun-loving “Petey lookalike” fellow with a huge grin and a whole lot of love to give. And he’s hoping to find a forever home with someone who will play with him when he’s feeling peppy but let him snuggle when it’s time to rest.

Gandalf is a somewhat conservative character. A bit quiet at first, he comes around once he’s settled in and knows he can trust you, asking for gentle pats and scratches. He’s very sweet but seeks attention in his own time, and he prefers to sit next to you rather than be picked up and carried around. Gandalf likes stability and a calm atmosphere, but he does like to have a cat buddy with which to play and snuggle. At 8 months old, he’s very well-behaved when it comes to getting groomed, handling even an ear cleaning without fuss or complaint. And as the name Gandalf might suggest, he sports a rich grey coat. Pets of the Week February 12, 2018

Hunter’s name is quite fitting because he’s part Pointer, loves to be outside, and is always willing to chase his favorite toys around the backyard. He’s about a year old and full of energy, which he burns off by running and playing with his favorite human. Hunter is more than happy to accept affection and praise, but he also has an independent streak and really needs a large fenced-in yard allowing him to get the exercise he requires while keeping him safely contained. He’s a charming and handsome dog, medium-sized with a lovely white and chocolate brown coat. Come visit Hunter and see if he’s the one piece that’s been missing in the puzzle of your life.

Much like the Caped Crusader for whom he’s named, this kitty initially seems somewhat quiet and reserved. At 8 months old, Batman prefers an environment that is quiet and calm. Routine is his friend. At night, his superhero persona kicks in and he’s ready for action and showing off his martial arts skills. He is an attractive fellow, dressed all in black, with just the slightest touch of white on his chest. His bright golden-yellow eyes radiate intelligence, and it’s easy to get lost in his gaze and mystery.

Pets of the Week February 5, 2018

Buster’s big brown eyes are as captivating as his wide smile. This 9-month-old Hound mix has a sunny disposition and loads of energy, and all he wants is someone who will love his goofy self. Because he’s young and spirited, he needs a place where he can run, chase tennis balls, chew on bones, and enjoy the freedom to burn off his puppy-ish exuberance. Buster weighs about 40 lbs, and he’s quite handsome, with a black and white coat, highlighted with lighter black spots. A home without small children would be more suited for his high energy, but another dog or two could be a great doggie blend for him.

From Garthena’s photo, you’d think this was simply an elegant, calm cat who loves to lie around, posing for the camera. How wrong you would be. She is indeed beautiful — with a jet black coat, splash of white on her chest, and bright golden eyes — but this little girl is also a ball of energy. She likes affection, but when she’s ready to get back to chasing around her toys, she’ll jump straight out of your arms and take off again. At just 6 months old, Garthena is likely to stay in kitten mode for quite some time, so she needs a family that will give her the playtime she craves.
