Pets of the Week March 25, 2019

PeteyPetey is just a big ole couch potato. And he is a big boy, no doubt. But one look at his face, and you see all you need to know about him. His large, kind eyes are truly windows to his soul. All he desires in the world is someone who will be gentle and loving, returning the affection that he so readily gives. He’s a little over 3 years old, so now longer a puppy but with plenty of years left to love his family. And he does prefer human companions rather than those of the four-legged kind. This handsome fawn-colored hound mix very well may be that one thing in your life you’ve been missing.

MuffinYes, it’s a boy named Muffin. That’s MR. Muffin to you, thank you very much. This one-year-old grey kitty is one dapper fellow, with his sleek coat and big yellow-green eyes. He likes attention from his humans, and like most cats, will let you know exactly what kind of attention it is that he wants. Sometimes he likes to cuddle; other times he prefers just a few scratches and pats. But one thing that this sweet Muffin is always sure of is the fact that he longs for a forever family. Come meet him today before he’s claimed by someone else.

Us 2019

Us

Seeing Us in a theater of people was a blast. As in most horror movies, the characters on screen do things that we the audience know is no good. Having various people in the crowd react was perfect. From the “no no no no”s to the “Don’t go in there!” Just a good horror movie going experience.

Us’ trailer gives too much plot away. It just does. But the idea of your evil doppelganger coming after you is powerful. Especially if it is doppelgangers of your whole family.

The scope explodes far beyond what you think.

Music plays heavily in Us. The soundtrack is good and has some entries I am not familiar with.

All the actors kill it in Us. Even the supporting players.

There is a twist that horror movie fans will see coming a mile away. But that does not detract from the movie.

Starring: Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Anna Diop, Cali Sheldon, Noelle Sheldon, Madison Curry, Ashley Mckoy

Synopsis: Husband and wife Gabe and Adelaide Wilson take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends. But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.

BiscuitWho can resist a Biscuit? Well, this one surely is irresistible. Cute as a button, with a loving yet feisty personality, this eight-year-old Chihuahua mix wins over everyone he meets. His favorite thing to do is cuddle in your lap and give lots of kisses, although he does like to have a romp and play with another dog when he can. Biscuit is a light tan, with big brown eyes and long legs that he puts to good use, as he really enjoys taking walks. He may be a little older, but he still has plenty of energy as well as lots of years left to love his new family.

FloFlo would like to be addressed as Princess Flo, thank you very much. Four months old and already a total diva, she knows exactly what she wants. She has a heart of gold, but she believes firmly she should be treated like royalty. And why not? She will happily allow you to carry her around, telling her how beautiful she is and meeting her every demand, whether that be a spoonful of her favorite canned food or allowing her to spend a leisurely afternoon playing with her most treasured toys. She knows she’s pretty, too – a lovely black-and-white tuxedo kitty with big green eyes. Won’t you welcome Flo into your castle?

Captain Marvel

I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. The origin story is sprinkled throughout until we get the payoff near the final act.

It opens with a nice tribute to Stan Lee. His cameo, while brief, was perfect.

This movie has easter eggs galore. We get a young character who may become Photon in present day MCU. We get young Fury and Colson. We get Ronan the Accuser as well as one of his henchman introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie also plays with Fury losing his eye.

Captain Marvel has many light and funny moments.

The theater I was in was filled with adults and children. Barring one child getting upset when the skrulls were on screen, most had a blast and were cheering Carol Danvers on .

Just like GotG, the souindtrack for this movie is an amazing throwback. This time to the 90s.

Starring: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Annette Bening, Lashana Lynch, Clark Gregg, Rune Temte, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Chuku Modu, Akira Akbar, Azari Akbar

Synopsis: The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Happy Death Day 2U

Not quite as fun as the original. Happy Death Day 2U gives us a bit of a genre swap. More SciFi film than horror.

We start off the film with someone else stuck in a murder loop. This transitions to Tree in an alternate reality in another murder loop. An alternate reality where her mother is alive and Carter is dating Danielle.

The cause of the loops is explained. It’s ok. But I would have enjoyed it more if there was no explanation and the phenomenon hit different people. Almost like It Follows.

Still this was a fun film to watch. I hope they can make a third film since the after credits scene leaves it wide open for another.

Starring: Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Phi Vu, Suraj Sharma, Sarah Yarkin, Rachel Matthews, Ruby Modine, Steve Zissis, Charles Aitken, Laura Clifton, Missy Yager, Jason Bayle, Rob Mello

Synopsis: Collegian Tree Gelbman wakes up in horror to learn that she’s stuck in a parallel universe. Her boyfriend Carter is now with someone else, and her friends and fellow students seem to be completely different versions of themselves. When Tree discovers that Carter’s roommate has been altering time, she finds herself once again the target of a masked killer. When the psychopath starts to go after her inner circle, Tree soon realizes that she must die over and over again to save everyone.
