Brightburn

Brightburn is not your happy, pg-13 super hero film. We all know the Superman story. The Kents cannot have children. They are gifted from the heavens with a child who grows to become the savior of Man. Yes the Superman story is not subtle in its origins.

Brightburn gives us the Omen twist on that. A couple trying hard to have a child is gifted with a child from the heavens from a glowing red craft. He most definitely does not become mankind’s savior.

Instead, we see a mostly normal child begin to hit puberty and begin to change. Just like the Kents, the Breyer family kept the craft Brandon arrived in in their barn. It begins to glow and affect Brandon in the night. Brandon begins to exhibit powers and abilities beyond the mortal man.

But without the extreme morals of someone brought up by the Kents. A more realistic portrayal of an awkward kid, somewhat picked on who begins to lose touch with regular people. Then embraces being different and being sociopathic to the extreme.

It is made very clear that Brandon has lost almost all traces of human emotions near the end. He is mostly going through the motions feeling superior to everyone.

Do not expect a happy ending.

Brightburn does not shy away from the gore either.

Starring: Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Emmie Hunter, Matt Jones, Meredith Hagner, Becky Wahlstrom, Gregory Alan Williams, Annie Humphrey

JackJack has one goal and one goal only: to find a family that will give him as much love as he offers to others. And that really shouldn’t be an issue, as he is one lovable pooch. Jack is a 2-year-old Retriever mix with a uniquely colored coat – it’s almost blue – light brown eyes, and a smile that lights up every room he enters. As you’d probably expect, he has plenty of energy, so he’s definitely hoping to become part of an active household. He also seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, both big and small, and he is always delighted to meet new people. Jack is waiting to meet YOU.

CaraCara is one of those cats that will win you over, even if you don’t like cats. You simply can’t help but be drawn to her. She wants nothing more than to be held and snuggled, so she can make muffins in your lap and rub her head against your chin. And Cara is just as pretty as she is sweet. She’s a 4-year-old black, white, and butterscotch Calico with huge yellow-green eyes that radiate intelligence and kindness. Won’t you let her win your heart?

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

John Wick Chapter 3 opens right after the events of John Wick Chapter 2. Chapter 3 further explores the consequences of John’s decisions in the world he left behind and reluctantly rejoined.

We see more of the resources of the High Table in play and that no one is safe from their attention. Everyone plays by their rules or by their leave.

As John works to see one who stands above the High Table, an Adjudicator for the High Table comes to New York to pass Judgement on everyone who has helped John. Bonus, we do get some of John’s origin as well.

John’s quest takes him to Casablanca where we get to see an amazing battle scene with people getting shredded in a coordinated attack by a person and a dog. Repeatedly.

While John is out of town, the Adjudicator’s people work through John’s former support system in New York.

It all comes to a head at the New York Continental and a massive battle against heavily armored troops. We are left open for john Wick 4 – confirmed for a 2021 release.

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Mark Dacascos, Asia Kate Dillon, Lance Reddick, Tobias Segal, Anjelica Huston, Saïd Taghmaoui, Jerome Flynn, Randall Duk Kim

PumbaaThere’s no question why Pumbaa was given his name, for it fits him to a T. He’s a kindhearted goofball. Plus, he’s a lovely fawn color with big, prominent ears, so he even looks a bit like his namesake. But it’s his personality that will win you over. At around 20 months old, he’s loaded with energy, so he will need a yard in which to run or plenty of nice long walks or, even better, jogs. He loves spending time with people, but he’s capable of entertaining himself, as well, and best of all, he’s polite and never pushy. Pumbaa adores treats, but he takes any offerings very gently. Overall, he’s just a great dog, and he hopes you’ll feel the same.

TerraTerra is a truly fabulous feline, from her stunning black, orange, and white coat and big yellow eyes to her affectionate, gentle personality. There’s nothing about this cat not to like. She is about 2 years old, so still quite youthful but lacking the exuberance of kittenhood. And speaking of kittens, she has proven herself to be an exceptional mother as well – kind but firm. If you’ve been looking for a new furry friend for your home, Terra just might be what you’ve been hoping for.

FudgeFudge is just as sweet and delightful as his name suggests. His beaming smile and wiggly greeting are the first things you’ll come to love, but once you get to know him, there’s nothing about this wonderful pup that won’t bring you joy. He’s a 2-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix with a white and brindle coat, light brown eyes, and enough personality for 10 dogs. He loves everyone he meets, and he’s looking for someone who will let him run off his considerable amount of energy, then crash on the couch with a movie and popcorn. Fudge truly is a treat not to be missed.

HelgaAll that can be said about Helga is that she is simply a wonderful cat. Affectionate, loving, and playful, she is one of those kitties who simply wants your attention. She’s a sucker for a treat and likes to show her appreciation by rubbing her forehead against yours. She’s a smart cookie, too, and there’s something about her that says if she could talk, she’d have long conversations with you about everything under the son. Swing by PetSmart to meet this gorgeous 8-month-old black and white beauty today.
