Pets of the Week November 5, 2012

The hot oil that left a permanent scar on his otherwise glossy back clearly didn’t touch his heart, for our darling Banks is all smiles and wags, a gentle 2–year-old black lab/mix Prince, grandly handsome and full of play and kisses. His popularity knows no bounds; Banks is a favorite pal with the dogs in his play group, he’d rather fetch his tug toy than jump on you any day, and he’ll politely go back in his pen for a treat. Pleasing you pleases Banks — his intelligence and attentiveness make him extremely trainable, and his natural sensitivity and dependable good mood make him a flawless friend for kids of all sizes. Banks is almost done growing, beautifully built and on the small side for a lab. Go see how easy it is to overlook the past when the future is graced with your own prized companion; Banks will freely give you his steadfast love and loyalty, and forever-unblemished optimism too.

He’s destined to demonstrate how pleasingly masculine a lap cat can be — he’s big, handsome, strong-loving, and all about YOU, with his own man-brand of adoring affection, and a brawny V-8 engine purr, too. Four-year-old Hudgens was found stray but his people-sense is magnificent; he’ll own you immediately, and once he does you’ll enjoy his highly vocal conversation, and the comfortable way he weighs heavy on your knees. Hudgens keeps things tidy inside but some outdoor time is fine with him, at least when your lap’s not available; he’s relaxed and gets along fine with other pets, and his big white bib stays immaculate — grooming’s a masculine-must. He can make big biscuits with his big paws, too, but only to show you how enthralled he is with your company. Meet the real-guy gentleman who takes all the feminine out of “feline;” Hudgens will show you his man-sized warmth and endearing enthusiasm too.

Meet Chanel (pictured with HSOG volunteer Jenny LeMoine) and you’ll learn that she’s affectionate, energetic, intelligent and loyal; and, yes, she’s playful too. Chanel is a Blue Heeler/Pointer mix and working man’s best friend in the making. She works hard during the day and relaxes at night. She’s two years young and full of fun. Chanel wants to be your only dog, is great with kids, and is fine with cats. Chanel can sit on command, loves to fetch, keeps her kennel clean, and is highly trainable. She would be happiest as both an inside/outside family member. Go meet “Chanel” and feel the fulfillment she will give you today and forever.

Sit back and let Ted entertain you with his presence and you’ll begin to understand how fun, curious and full of life this two year old Orange Tabby play boy can be. Ted was found stray, but his social skills are fabulous as is the rest of him. Ted enjoys the company of other cats, and likes dogs too. He keeps a tidy litter box and would be happy spending some time outside in the sun, close by your happy home. Ted can be seen at PetSmart in Greenwood. Go discover how talkative, energetic and handsome this great cat-companion can be. Ted’s heart and soul is packed and ready to make your life complete He is ready to start a beautiful friendship with you and your family.

Pets of the Week October 22, 2012

The Shih Tzu’s been prized by Chinese royals for a thousand years and is now one of country’s our most popular breeds — meet our wonder dog “Wanda” and you’ll see precisely why. True to her noble ancestry she’s vivacious, alert and trusting, as full of kisses as she is of play — a newly clipped black and white beauty, ready for your embrace. Wanda was found stray in Greenwood, someone’s cherished lap dog lost or abandoned; now she’s wants to make up for lost time by loving you all the more. Wanda enjoys other dogs but steers clear of cats; she’d make a joyous playmate for bigger kids, and she seems to have a background in house training; she’s so smart and eager to learn she’ll polish up perfectly in no time. See what a consummate companion dog looks like, and let your glorious new friendship with Wanda begin today.

Wilma loves making waves, but not the irksome kind — this enchanting little inventor with the pastel tri-color stripes will drag her heavy water bowl just enough to make the water slosh inside, then drink while it’s still moving, delicious! Four-year-old Wilma was found stray but now she’s ready for high-society; she’s full grown, forever small, and her playful appeal could hardly be bigger: she’s quick to come when you call, intrigued with a fine meow-to-person chat, and she adores a game of hide-n-seek too, as long as she finds YOU. Wilma gets along well with other cats and her well-mannered, attentive ways make her a delightful choice for children. Meet the pretty little girl packed with personhood, Wilma will devote herself to you and show you how deeply fulfilling — and fascinating — a feline friendship can be.

Pets of the Week October 15, 2012

Perla is Italian for “pearl” and this gem of a dog could not be more appropriately named. Her affection is endless and available to everyone; in fact, being in the company of others is proving out to be her life’s purpose. She’s the ultimate companion dog! This Hound/Retriever mix weighs 40 lbs and is full of playful energy balanced with calm submissiveness. She walks well on a leash and is very close to being house-trained. A quiet look from her soulful brown eyes and you instantly know that everything is going to be alright, and that is a gift that is priceless, just like her.

Tiny’s no longer tiny! He was so named because of his “teeniness” when he and his two siblings came to the shelter. Both his sister and brother have been adopted and now, at 5 months old, Tiny feels he’s ready to leave the nest. He has not had any exposure to the outside world and feels more comfortable hanging out inside where he can easily access the people of the house and their most comfortable furniture. One unique physical quality is his white-tipped tail. When it’s moving, it appears as though he’s sporting a flashlight for an appendage. Adopt Tiny and let him light up your life!

Pets of the Week October 8, 2012

She’s so happy she grins ear to ear, and she struts her gorgeous Pit-girl/mix stuff so gracefully she earned the name “Broadway.” But that’s the extent of the drama in her; this intelligent 2-year-old’s so cooperative your wish is her command. She’ll “sit” and fetch with glee, and even kennel herself on request — but her heartfelt favorite place to be is right by your side. Broadway’s performed brilliantly at several community events; she’s extremely well socialized and a smash hit with kids; her popularity with other dogs shines just as brightly, but she doesn’t like to share the stage with cats. She keeps her kennel clean and wouldn’t dream of tearing up her bed like lesser dogs; our staff gives her rave reviews! (Her adoption fee’s reduced because they’ve made her their pick for October.) Broadway’s pure loyalty will light up your home as never before, come meet your family’s newest star.

He’s the epitome of young masculine gentility, lean like a hunter but in pursuit only of your friendship — alert, responsive, and affectionate, a lap cat clad in striped dignity. One-year-old Ronnie was turned in by his owner and he’s been a model citizen ever since, shy at first but quick to adjust; happy to keep company with other cats, fine with dogs, and exactly the kind of sensitive, naturally refined cat-boy you’d trust with your kids. He’s so clean he’s a pleasure to hold, his coat is sleek and velvety at once; his purr’s as quietly abundant as the rest of his good-natured gifts, and his snuggle-warmth is delightfully dependable. Find the companion-prize of a lifetime; Ronnie’s love is as infinite as his stripes, ready and waiting to surround you and yours. (Ronnie’s currently available at PetSmart in Greenwood.)
