His name is Canyon and the depth of his Dachshund appeal defies description — the gleam of his black and brown coat is rivaled only by the playful gleam in his eye, and when he runs to you his jubilant spirit reaches you even before his beautifully-built young body. Canyon was turned in by his owner; we don’t know why; at 2 1/2 years-young he’s amiable, outgoing, energetic and responsive; he loves other dogs, adores children and will gaze into your eyes dreamily when you hold him like a baby, only to smile and strut his glorious stuff when you put him down. Canyon’s currently a model citizen at our Camp Good Dog; radiantly happy amidst a noisy crowd of kids and canines, eager to learn and cooperate. He enjoys a leash, is working on his housetraining, and is destined to become your perfectly darling family dog. He’s already neutered and ready to go home. Kat was found stray and now takes nothing for granted; her life’s work is to make you feel loved and she succeeds in fine fashion, a forever-small black and white advocate who will dote on you and your kids with endless fascination. Kat has no use for dogs and cares little for other cats, her box is neater than a pin, she’s happy both inside and out and she’s ready to become the backbone of your family, as long as you’re willing to receive her fervent Kat caresses. He’s one cool Dude in his own warm say, and the only thing more pleasing than his ultra- reliable housetraining is his sunny, supportive 24/7 smile. His owner had to move and regretfully gave us his beautifully schooled prize; The Dude’s an intelligent 3-year-young Red Heeler/American Staffordshire mix gentleman whose manners are immaculate; he’s a shelter office dog for now and a more civilized housemate you won’t find. The Dude’s as refined as you can be and still have fun — he doesn’t chew, won’t jump on you, and the only thing he’ll knock over is your heart; he’s patient with cats, great with kids, and he never meets a stranger; please test him with your current dog. The Dude’s highly food motivated, cooperative and responsive, teaching him new tricks would be fun; or just let him show your family how a courtly inside/outside guy behaves. Her owner moved and left her with us, but our gracious, affection-filled Little Debbie doesn’t belong here any more than a man in the moon — a full moon that is. At 8 years and 19 mostly soft-gray lbs., she’s just as large and lovely, and she’s replete with luminous personhood, too. Hold her and you’ll know you’re with a solid friend, the soft-voiced but chatty kind, who purrs a deep throaty purr, kneads your knees while she listens to your triumphs and tragedies, and eclipses the problems of the day with her very presence. Little Debbie’s an appreciative girl too — she gets along fine with other cats, keeps her white paws fastidiously clean, and would make a wise and gentle inside/outside pet for children. Her health is splendid and she’s already spayed; Little Debbie’s all set to light up your days, and your nights too, with her ample, love-beaming ways. There’s no official breed listing of a Labra-Basset, but our charming Betty Boop’s here to challenge that — hers is indeed a rare breed of appeal, and of her many assets nothing shines brighter than her amiable, outgoing ways, not even the sheen on her beautiful black coat. One-year-old Betty Boop was returned to us because she grew too big, now she’s dazzling one and all with her fun, adoring, ever-so-social spirit; she’ll follow you anywhere with a smile, an instant friend-maker, patient and gentle, quick to roll on her back for a fine tummy rub, and beamingly happy to lie at your feet. Betty Boop shows infinite patience in our busy office, even cats who don’t like her can’t turn off her friendly, accepting approach, and she’s fine with other dogs too, even those not as beautiful as her intriguingly well-made self. At 4 years old Molly’s just a little slip of a thing underneath her opulent orange and black coat; she was turned in because of pet allergies, and now she’s determined to enrich her new family’s lives with her soft voice, tender head butts and fervent ankle rubs, all wrapped in a profusion of purrs. Molly’s gentle, social and attentive, and would make a wonderful companion for your young ones; she gets along fine with other cats and she’s a tidy little girl; her box is neat and her alabaster bib and paws are clean, feminine and carefully groomed. She’s so exquisitely housetrained the word “accident” isn’t in her vocabulary — but she demonstrates the true meaning of “genteel” with ease. Our smiling, social Chelsey’s an American Bulldog mix at 6 years old she’s a walking etiquette lesson, and she’ll teach you how sweetly genuine warmth and refined manners go together hand-in-paw. Chelsey was found stray in Bradley; whatever her early training she’s been socialized beautifully, and she celebrates the American Bulldog character in signature Chelsey style: she’s by-your-side social, confident and obedient, as clean and trustworthy at home as you are, a loving companion for your kids and a lovely playmate for other dogs, she’s fine with cats too, and oh yes, she adores leash-walking. Come meet the friendship delight of your life; her ladylike ways may remind you of Audrey Hepburn, but she doesn’t need breakfast at Tiffany’s at all; Chelsey only wants to be with you.

How he came to be named “Scatter” is as mysterious as his Egyptian Abyssinian heritage — he’s certainly not scatter brained or sloppy either. In fact his trademark Abyssinian/mix intelligence is so pronounced he’s beyond box-trained; he always waits patiently til dark to use his litter box — hey, who says a handsome 2-year-old guy in his prime can’t be modest? You’ll see that he wears the distinctive brown ticked Abyssinian coat too, dense, silky, and more spotted than striped — and his big, gloriously green eyes are another breed trait. But more important than his coloring is that his purr-trigger lies just fingertip deep in his warm ticked fur; Scatter was turned in because his owner had personal problems, but his ability to love is still as quietly constant as the rest of him. He’s abundantly affectionate in his own easy-going way and a friend to all who meet him — he’s used to living with other cats, is accepting of dogs and has just the serene temperament to make him a wonderful first pet for your little ones.
