Pets of the Week December 5, 2011

When it comes to family manners, Bruno is the bomb! He’s so polite even his freckles are understated — but his full-body wag proclaims his loving persona loudly. Year-and-half-young Bruno was a stray in Greenwood; so how did he learn to come when you call him, return cooperatively to his kennel for a treat, and never, never jump on you? Maybe he was born to be one of your brood — he loves to play in the yard with kids big and small, is easy to groom and terrific on a leash; he’s just about there with his housetraining, too. Bruno likes to stand sentry, and will break his golden silence to let you know someone’s coming. If you’re looking to find a loyal gentle-boy who’s brimming with four-legged fun, come meet our boy Bruno today.

He’s as mellow as a well-muscled man with nothing to prove, and so courtly you’ll be tempted to call him “Thomas” instead of just Tom, or maybe even “Sir Thomas” at that. Tom was found stray in Ninety Six, a clean, handsome and pleasantly social two-year-old passing the time of day with anyone willing to stop for a chat, pet and purr, sometimes throwing in fancy words like “forsooth” purely for entertainment value. He gets along just fine with other male cats, including the one in the adjoining cage — no sense in being impolite to other guys, that’s for those who’re insecure. Nor does he feel the need to prove his masculinity with sloppy litter-box manners; Tom likes things tidy — ship shape. And if litter boxes aren’t your thing he’d be happy to be your outside cat, as long as you make yourself available for a fine, affectionate visit more often than not.

Pets of the Week November 28, 2011

She’s a stray from Saluda but her breed is from the Outback, now one-year-old Sophie’s ready to show you how perfectly an Australian Cattle dog fits in down home instead of down under. Sophie needs her share of attention and will return it a hundred-fold; she’s great with older children, loves to walk on a leash and her housetraining is in progress. Her medium size and “wash and wear” coat make her a snap to groom, even for the show ring her breed is simply wiped down with a damp cloth. If you’re looking for a joyful ally who’ll read your mind and capture your heart, Sophie’s the Aussie-dog for you.

Her eyes include a rare color of the luminous gemstone she’s named for — a distinct blue center oval, with lovely green for the rest. But one-year-old Jade’s determined-to-purr attitude is even more admirable than her blue-orbit eyes — her courage to caress has returned after being left with us by an owner who had to move. Jade’s warm velvet to touch and a perfect small snuggle-size — gentle, affectionate and kind with children and other cats alike. She likes to keep things clean and neat, especially her immaculate white paws and her litter box. Jade is already spayed and ready to go to your secure loving home, where she’ll complete her heart’s bloom.

Binding DC Comic’s Robin

I wanted to show some of my recent bindings from Houchen Bindery.

Robin was an amazing title from DC – even after it was relaunched as Red Robin. This title was ended and Red Robin began after the Batman: Battle for the Cowl mini-series.

My map brings this title out to 12 volumes. I could only fit 10 in the box. Mapping Robin was not an easy task. I got a lot of help at The Comic Forums. Crossovers like Batman: Murderer, Batman:Fugitive and War Games have their own binds. I simply placed a notice in the appropriate volumes of when to see those stories.

Binding DC Comics’ Batgirl

The recent Batgirl title with Stephanie Brown was one of the best titles DC has put out in a long time. It is one of the casualties of the reboot and was killed well before its time. The final pages of the final issue left us with a taste of where Bryan Q. Miller could have taken the title.

I cannot stress how good this title was.

I went with Herring & Robinson Bookbinders as the binder for this title.

This was a fairly easy map. The title ran 24 issues with a brief crossover with Red Robin. One issue was supposed to be continued into an issue of Batman, Inc. But the delays on that title put the issue after the reboot.

edited to clarify binding Map -Donny
