Pets of the Week January 2, 2012


“Two peas in a pod” are Will and Grace. These Boxer, Shepherd, and Rottweiler are around 8 to 9-years old. Both are spayed/neutered, house-trained, absolutely mild-mannered and well-behaved. Because of their size and age, and the Humane Society staff hope they’ll be adopted together, they are available as a pair for a $50 adoption fee. They have proven to the shelter staff to be much happier and content when they’re together.


Seek Camille and you’ll find a purr-blast masquerading as a downy-soft, 6-month bit of shyness, she’s a tsunami of affection once you activate her, and her longish tri-color coat is gorgeous, too. Sweet Camille was turned in by a neighbor, her owners moved away and left her, but she’s knows in her heart that her very own loving home is just around the corner. Come see what a substantial friend this fluffy young glamor girl can be, and luxuriate in all the tenderness Camille has to give.

Furry Friends Friday for December 23, 2011


Here’s perfection on four legs — an impeccably housetrained German Shepherd/mix gentleman, small for his kind, with a smile as big and bright as his mind — so lovingly trustworthy he’s willing to wait for permission before hugging your neck warmly. Cyrus is 5 years old stray and will make a dear and ideal playmate for kids of all ages and other dogs too; he’s also fine with cats.


She’s as pristine as new fallen snow, Snowflake will blanket you with gentle warmth and make every day White-Christmas-special. Snowflake’s two-years-young and already spayed. She loves to keep herself perfectly clean and will offer a soft flurry of girly purr-words when you brush her. She’s fine with dogs but likes to keep her distance from other cats; her box is as immaculate as the rest of her.

Home Free for the Holidays – a Special Adoption Event

The Greenwood Humane Society is holding a pet adoption special this month with the hope that a lot of dogs and cats find good homes for the holidays.

On December 16 and 17, the regular $85 adoption fee for dogs and $50 for cats will be waived in a special they’re calling “Home Free for the Holidays.”

Their hope is that during this time of year, when most people are stretching their dollars to buy Christmas gifts for family and friends, that this special promotion will allow people to adopt new family pets. They encourage all potential adopters to be sure they’re ready for a new cat or dog to join their family and are committed to loving the pet for its entire life.

Even though the adoption fee will be waived, the animal’s vaccinations, heartworm or feline leukemia testing, spay or neuter, and microchip will still be included. Routine adoption processes will still apply.

The Greenwood County Animal Shelter is located at 235 Wilbanks Circle in Greenwood, behind the Greenwood Civic Center and Farmer’s Market. The Adoption Center’s hours of operation are 10:00a to 5:00p and adoption counselors can be reached at 864.942.8775 or by email.

Her owner brought in on a chain, but even then her exuberant wag was in full swing, as wide and unfettered as her steadfast smile. Chaney’s a surprisingly small one-year-young Boxer beauty, with all the traits that make her breed one of our country’s most popular — she’s destined to be a loyal companion, a tender, fun-loving playmate for your kids and an intelligent, highly trainable member of your household. Chaney loves to run in the yard and would make a great outside dog as long as she gets plenty of affection; she enjoys most other canines, is naturally clean and low maintenance, and her housetraining is coming along just fine. Chaney’s ready to become a glorious family dog, come make her the guardian of your home and heart.


Her name’s Prissy but in truth she’s anything but; more like a sparkling love-buddy with warm emerald eyes and a ruby red heart that glows with affection. Lovely two-year-old Prissy was found stray in Ninety Six, an occupation she’s ill-suited for; she belongs in a safe, loving home, where she’ll happily contribute her mother-lode of tenderness. Hold her in your lap and she’ll lay her sweet cheekbone gratefully on your knee, spinning you a whisper-purr while you stroke her immaculate tri colored fur. Prissy keeps a neat cat box and fits in fine with other cats and dogs. Why go to a jewelry store when you can bring home a gift as precious as Prissy? Pets of the Week December 12, 2011


Katherine’s a beautiful Border Collie/mix, and her breed’s thought by many to be the most intelligent of all dogs, eager to learn and able to master hundreds of voice commands. She’s a lovely, healthy one-year-old stray, completely housetrained, cooperative, polite and responsive. She’d be perfect for a fun-loving family who’ll give her the attention she deserves; she’ll run your kids’ legs off before coming in to lie ladylike at your feet. Katherine adores other dogs too. If you want consummate loyalty go meet a joy called Katherine, and begin the friendship journey of a lifetime.


She’s as bendable as a cat made of pipe cleaners, so pliable and easy to please you can arrange her any which-away; but you can tell she’s real because pipe cleaners don’t purr, and gentle Malibu won’t stop. And after she wins the “most pliable” prize, she’ll probably win the “velvety fur” prize too, she’s so warm and soft your fingers will hardly believe themselves, you have to give her young sweet form several pets for the softness to sink in.
