Pets of the Week October 22, 2018

RomanRoman is just as strong, handsome, and masculine as his name suggests. This 3-year-old retriever mix has an attractive golden-yellow coat, big brown eyes, and a smile at least a mile wide. He thinks he’s a canine Casanova, smoothing in for kisses and cuddles whenever the opportunity arises. However, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like to play, because Roman is extremely energetic and athletic. He’d love to have a fenced-in yard where he can stretch those long legs because when he isn’t trying to climb into your lap, he wants nothing more than to be running and chasing a favorite toy.

MyraThere’s a good chance that the one thing missing in your life is Myra. This 9-month-old black and white kitty is a true gem among cats, with a winning personality and beauty to spare. She is sweet and affectionate, always up for receiving attention, especially if you have a few tasty treats handy. And although she loves little mouse toys, she’s typically quite calm and laid back. Myra is also a talker, and she will gladly tell you all about her day and listen attentively to a recount of yours. And since she gets along just fine with other felines, there’s no reason she wouldn’t be happy to join a family with furry siblings.

Halloween, 2018

Halloween 2018 is a sequel to the original Halloween from 1978. The other sequels and remake do not exist in this continuity. They are treated as embellished stories .

Michael, the Shape, is more brutal and violent in this entry. Body count is definitely higher than the original. You get nods aplenty to the original. No pet deaths. The only nudity is a bit of a flashback to Michael killing his sister from the first movie. But no one is safe from Michael. No one.

This movie also gives us a broken, but determined Laurie Strode. Someone dubbed “the new Loomis” who unfortunately does exactly what you expect him to. It is nice seeing 3 generations of Strodes on screen.

The movie does end with the possibility of a sequel in one fashion or another.

Synopsis: Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, James Jude Courtney, Nick Castle, Will Patton, Haluk Bilginer, Rhian Rees, Jefferson Hall, Toby Huss, Virginia Gardner, Dylan Arnold, Miles Robbins, Jibrail Nantambu, Omar J. Dorsey

Sergeantina truly is the whole package: smart, affectionate, fun-loving, and as pretty as a picture. This sweet-faced, brown and white Staffordshire Terrier mix is just under 2 years old, so she has many years of love left. She’s quite active and thinks toys are a fantastic invention, but she’d prefer not to have to share them with furry siblings, as she believes attention is best if given just to her. Sergeantina is also a lover of treats, so as she’s proving just how bright she is, she’ll be delighted to be rewarded with a few tasty morsels. But don’t think she’s all energy and playfulness, for she loves to snuggle on the couch as well, as long as she’s allowed to pick the movie.

If you’ve never seen a dilute calico, let Sophia be the first to show you just how uniquely beautiful these cats are. Some people describe them as white cats that have played around in watercolors rather than bright oil paints, and once you see Sophia’s mixture of soft grays and light orangey-tans, you’ll understand why. This one-year-old kitty has a personality that perfectly matches her gorgeous exterior. She’s sweet and affectionate, readily coming to you for scratches and cuddles and rewarding you with her gentle purr. She also seems content to share her space with other cats and children, so she’s sure to be a wonderful addition to your family.

Venom

Venom is an ok movie. I loved the interactions between the symbiote and Eddie Brock. Whether it was the conversations Eddie would appear to be having by himself as he walked down the street or to the symbiote’s input when Eddie is talking to another person.

The symbiote scenes are CGI. But not terrible CGI. Passable.

Thankfully, they did not try to force a spider symbol on his chest since this version of Venom has no real connection to Spider-Man. Sure Eddie is a West Coast transplant from New York. A former reporter for the Daily Globe (not the Bugle). And one of the astronauts from the beginning is named Jameson, but that is it. At least that I can remember.

The main villain, Carlton Drake, is your typical God-Complex, super rich, megalomaniac.

The plot is nothing to write home about. It gets the job done. It sets up Venom as an anti-hero. I like where the movie ends up. I think a sequel can focus more on the antics of Venom. And needs to not be symbiote-heavy.

Starring: Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate

Pets of the Week October 8, 2018

Looking for the best all-around cat? Meet Rolly! Rolly is the girl next door, the pageant beauty and the sophisticated queen all rolled into one. You can’t ask for more as this stunning white and brown tabby lays in your arms, softly purrs and locks her golden eyes on you. She greets you with kindness, hoping for an ear scratch or a cuddle, but she’s never demanding and certainly accepts a sweet hello and gentle pet. You’ll want to meet this All-American girl, for she’s going to fill your home with wholesome goodness, royalty, and good old fashioned love.

Colt is the guy that all the girls want with his flirtatious grin, his handsome tri-colored coat and oh, those magnificent brown and blue eyes! Happy as the center of attention, he’ll make sure you notice him with silly antics, a sloppy kiss or a big ol’ Catahoula hug. Athletic, spunky and always up for a good time, he’d do best with a fenced yard so he’ll not travel the world in search of new friends and crazy fun adventures. At six months old he’s got a lot of growing to do, so this big fella’s physique will soon match the size of his large heart. Friendly and full of enthusiasm, Colt looks forward to meeting the family who wants a dog with oodles of character.
