Dark Tower 2017

The Dark Tower

The Dark Tower is an ok movie. Not great. But not demand a refund terrible either.

I would recommend waiting to catch this on video.

I have not read the Dark Tower series from Stephen King. So my perspective is solely based on this movie.

My friends have stressed how amazing the book series is. How it ties together different books. This movie did not give me any of that.

Just like Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, The Dark Tower tried to build a huge world in one movie that would have been better spent slowly building over a few movies or a Netflix/HBO series.

Starring: Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor

Pets of the Week August 7, 2017

If it wasn’t for Cooper’s size, he would be the epitome of the 1940s cartoon dog, Droopy. This 8-month-old, slow-moving, never-in-a-rush Coonhound mix is as laid back as they come. Despite his enormous feet, he is quite graceful managing a gallop or two when a super surge of energy overtakes him. As is the norm, other dogs at the shelter bark at him while he’s in the yard. However, he is completely unfazed and responds by leisurely approaching each, tilting his head as if saying, “Hello, how are you?” This derpy dog is just the sweetest and he will be the best family friend.

Shimmer is simply stunning. From her orangy-orange and black Torti coat to her oh-so-green eyes, this perfect feline is quite the looker. Not only is she pretty, she has personality, too! She gets her purr motor running as soon as someone stops to admire her and really gets happy when she receives affection. She will always reward you with more love than you give by giving a gentle head butt or rubbing around your legs. Her favorite pastimes are napping, staring, and Scrabble. Increase the value of your home and life by adopting Shimmer.

Pets of the Week July 31, 2017

The day simply cannot be gloomy when you have “laughing” Lenny around! This happy go lucky bundle of black fur is nothing short of a comical, lovable, incredibly likable guy. His ear to ear joker grin and his jubilant, expressive eyes instantly make you want to sing in the sunshine, throw caution to the wind and live life to the fullest! Lenny is the guy that everyone invites to the party because he’s the merriest, most down to earth, best bud around. Everybody loves Lenny! You will, too… it’s guaranteed!

Blessing is undoubtedly the perfect name for this kind, gentle cat who puts warmth in your heart simply by gazing into your eyes. Mild tempered and calm, she appreciates light petting and an appreciation for her shyer moments. Her disposition is a lovely one, and she graces the room like a princess who may not want to be in the spotlight but instantly evokes admiration, tranquility, and peace. Her soft, kettle black fur, lovely white boots and a fancy white bib are classic and timeless. The elegance of maturity and the innocence of a child, Blessing will bestow love and all things good in her future family’s life.

Atomic Blonde

Atomic Blonde scratched a spy movie itch I didn’t know I had. From the opening scene of a bruised and battered Charlize Theron going in for a debriefing to awesome fights and spy craft against the backdrop of the Berlin Wall, I loved this movie. We also get to see Sofia Boutella’s acting chops.

And the soundtrack. Just perfect for the time and setting of the movie.

I hope this is the start of a new franchise.

Being a spy movie – too much knowledge of the plot would spoil essential details. Suffice it to say, an MI6 agent is killed and highly volatile intelligence was stolen from him. Lorraine is sent to find the missing intelligence with support from McAvoy’s character. That brief synopsis does not do this movie justice.

Karate Kill

Karate Kill is a fun, low budget martial arts film from Kurando Mitsutake, the Director of Gun Woman.

Kenji is working multiple jobs in Japan and sending money to his sister, Mayumi. He goes a month without hearing from her and heads to the US to find her. This leads to Kenji fighting his way from California to Texas, and finding out the fate of his sister.

I highly recommend that you watch this movie. It is available on Video on Demand and on bluray and dvd. The bluray comes with a soundtrack cd.
