Pluto
What comes to mind when you hear “Pluto?” Chances are it’s either the once-planet or Disney’s well-known best friend of Mickey Mouse. Oddly enough, Pluto the Shepherd mix seems to have a little something in common with both namesakes. Much like the once-planet, at only 50 lbs, Pluto is not quite large enough to qualify for his breed type. This guy is just a little shy of the weight of some of his larger purebred cousins, which makes him an excellent dog for those who want the shepherd breed qualities, without the shepherd breed size! And much like Pluto the cartoon dog, our beautiful black and tan Pluto just wants to be someones best friend. Pluto loves people and is happiest when he’s with someone. He has exceptional leash manners and is very well-behaved when it’s time for a walk. At one-year-old, he’s passed the larger part of his puppyhood, but still has some overflowing exuberance. So Pluto’s perfect family would be one willing to give him that extra bit of attention and to help him finish learning puppy manners. Pluto also loves other dogs and would fit right in to a new family’s “pack.” Hurry and come meet Pluto today and see why this guy is your new best friend in waiting.

Piper
Found as a stray kitten in August, sweet and curious Piper has determined to take finding her new home into her “own paws.” Whenever the door to her kennel is opened, Piper parades out and starts socializing with any person or pet she sees along the way. Never pushy, she quietly asks for cuddles and love and is never cross when scooped up and placed back inside her shelter cage. Though she acts rather grown up for a kitten of six months, she still has a goofy side! She loves toys and absolutely loves to explore. Piper gets along with other cats and people of all ages. Her quiet presence would be the perfect addition to any house. So don’t wait! Meet and pet on Piper today and let her work her charms on you!

Pets of the Week October 12, 2015

Anne
Looking for a calm, easy to care for pet? Look no further! At six years old, Anne is a dream dog for those looking for a canine companion. Passed all the destructive energy of a puppy, but not quite into her twilight years, she is laid back and friendly. She loves nothing more than attention from you, understands the value of quiet indoor time, but is still up for an occasional outdoor romp. Being a Beagle/Lab mix she is the delightful size of neither “too big” nor “too small.” She has no problem with other dogs and treats them like she does people, everyone is a new potential friend. Just meet Anne, we know that once you start petting her you won’t want to stop, and she won’t want you to either!

Zakory
Everyone knows a person who is always “on” — always joking or making others laugh, good for any game or adventure. Well, that’s Zakory, the handsome, 5-month-old, black-and-white cat in a nutshell! Zackory loves to play — with people, toys, his environment, or even that piece of lint on the floor. Everything is a toy and fun game to Zakory. If you are looking for a cute little clown for your home, a friend who always makes you laugh, or someone who always want to play with you, then you are looking for Zakory. Play a game with him and see for yourself the little piece of joy missing from your home.

Pets of the Week October 5, 2015

Toffee
Toffee is a gentle, 4-year-old, Shepherd mix with dark carmel-colored doe eyes. She loves a good long walk and will keep pace with you, not pulling or tugging. She came to the shelter as a stray wearing a spiked collar and sporting several injuries. She looked rough, tough, and scary, but it was quickly realized that she was, instead, sugary sweet and loving. During her road to recovery, she endured much medical poking and prodding with Job-like patience and now she’s in ship shape and ready for a new home. Visit her at the Animal Shelter and you’ll find her she’s sitting pretty and patiently awaiting your attention and kindness. She’ll return the gesture with unconditional love and enduring loyalty.

Muriel
Perhaps it takes a lifetime to deeply understand all of life’s lessons. This must explain how Muriel became so patient and kind. Muriel is a 10-year-old brown and white Tabby who has all the finest virtues you could ask of a house cat. She is already a master at living inside and she keeps her short coat and her living spaces spotless. Her personality soothes those around her and Muriel has this effect on people, as well as other pets. Her spirit isn’t dampened, but why should such a kind and gentle feline spend one more moment without a family of her own? Compassion and companionship embraces all ages of pets and the lucky family that brings Muriel into their home will learn just how priceless unconditional love can be.

Pets of the Week September 28, 2015

Sasha
Two-year-old Sasha is a long, lean, loving machine. This 45 lb. Shepherd mix is a bundle of fun energy who loves running and romping and would make a wonderful jogging and hiking buddy. Her best doggie friend, Monty, was just adopted and together they used to play chase until both were exhausted from … playing chase. Living with an active family would be the perfect fit for her and having a dog friend would just be the icing on the cake. Sasha’s zest for life is contagious and if you need a canine coach to help get you moving and active, she would love to be the one.

Velvet
Velvet could not be more appropriately named. Her soft plush gray and white coat is a delight to the touch and her easygoing personality equally as capitivating. At two-years-old, this cool cat is a champion in the game of hide-and-seek. She camouflages herself in any setting and then takes great pleasure in watching we humans look for her. As if showing her seekers mercy, she will eventually reveal herself and parade along the floor meowing, “I was here all along!” Velvet gets along with other cats, dogs, and even kiddos. Adopt this lovely lady and add an casual elegance to your home.

Pets of the Week September 21, 2015

Wilma
6-year-old, Hound and Border Collie mix Wilma Flintstone needs a home. When her previous owner passed away, her life took a sudden and drastic turn — no home, no family, and living in an animal shelter with 90 other dogs. The good news is that she has a heart and love that surpasses her circumstances. She’s an amazingly well-balanced pooch, the Hound in her likes to relax and chill out. If she has visitors who want to play, she’s quick to oblige and will show off her Border Collie skills running circles around everyone. Medium-sized Wilma loves kids, older folks, and everyone else in-between. She is a resilient dog who wants to once again have a loving companion and warm home to call her own.

Stoney
Silly and swift, Stoney is a cat lover’s action dream. At ten months old, he still has all the playful exuberance of a kitten and will be a footloose and fun-loving cat for years to come. Stoney has a creamy, orange tabby coat with little white mittens that are perfect for getting into laughable mischief. Although he is deaf, he really needs an outdoor area to live and perform his acrobatic antics and the “song of his people.” He likes to sing, but can’t hear himself to know that … well, his style is “unique.” Stoney is fine around other pets, but because he is packed with high-throttle energy he is best suited for homes without small children. Add some entertaining kitty hijinks to your life by adopting Stoney!
