Remy
If you think a Beagle should be part bugle, don’t bother to read about our handsome little Remy; even surrounded by a throng of kids at Petsmart, only his tender eyes spoke volumes, clearly expressing his calm devotion to love-snuggle-play, and a hunting ethic that leads only to you. Remy was found stray, a forever small, classically appealing 3-year-old who seems half lap dog, half zoom-zoom toy; he’ll settle into your arms like a warm child, ardently absorbing every ounce of affection — but put him down and he’ll morph into a merry blur, your very own racing playmate — gentle, exuberant, and so adept at chasing you down you’ll love being caught. Remy’s a friend to all, dog roommates included; his shy side lasts only a minute before his trusting heart shines through. Inside or out, he wants to be by your side; he’s clean and tidy, does well on a leash, thinks toys are a blast, and will happily sit for a treat. Come see how eloquently a Beagle can speak without ever bothering to bay; you’ll fall prey to Remy in an instant, and surrender was never so sweet.

Patches
“Patches” is an understatement of a name for her; her glorious tortoise shell-tabby (Torbie) markings are etched in orange, black and white so vivid even the latter seems to glow; but her keenly defined markings is where her edges end, inside she’s a dreamy watercolor-cat, a two year old girl suffused with tranquil sweetness you’ll feel the moment you hold her. Patches is another mystery-stray, an intelligent, soft-spoken beauty with finishing-school manners somehow homeless; we’ve seen her civilized approach win her cat-friends easily, and her alert, relaxed demeanor makes her a lovely choice for your little ones. Patches is currently reigning congenially over a pristine Petsmart cat condo (she’s proud to keep it immaculate). Go marvel at how fascinating her “Torbie” markings really are, and catch the calm of our splendid Patches as she purrs her first hello.

Buddy
The most eloquent testimony to his gentleness comes from Buddy’s own boyish mouth; it’s in the delicate way he takes a treat from your fingers — more a soft caress than a nibble, consciously considerate beyond his year-and-a-half youthfulness, all his exuberance carefully contained until he “sits” or “lies down” for you successfully. Buddy was found stray, a handsome Hound-mix with a noble face who somewhere learned to keep his run nice and clean (why go in your pen when you can wait and go outside?) and walk proudly on a leash, too. He adores toys of all kinds — ball, rope, squeaky, who cares — as long as he can gallop back to you for a kiss and a snuggle, and return every affection in good measure. Buddy’s destined to be your consummate inside-outside family dog, a stout-hearted friend who loves to learn and gets along waggingly with everyone; utter devotion is the only kind he knows. Come see how reverently a big nice boy can push the limits of perfection, and how happy you’ll be when Buddy comes bounding into your welcoming arms.

Tarzan
A cat gifted with boundless energy, grace, and ape-like skills, young Tarzan could not be more aptly named. He bounces and trounces grabbing at imaginary airborne objects just like the fictional Tarzan grabbed at vines to swing from tree to tree. This 5-month-old Classic Brown Tabby is a stunner to see sporting unique body markings that have a whirled and swirled pattern with wider stripes that make what are referred to as “butterfly” patterns on their shoulders, and usually a bullseye or oyster pattern on the flank. Tarzan is not one to be easily overlooked …. and it’s for certain he won’t be overlooking you. Tarzan is currently available through Petsmart in Greenwood.

Pets of the Week April 8, 2013

Farley
Want a dog that gets along with everyone? Farley’s a two-year-old Hound gentleman of the highest — and “funnest” — degree. Packed full of smartitude, he has already been taught to sit, lay down, and shake. You may see a toy or two or three around him, because he does love to play with tennis balls and rope toys, but he is fastidious about keeping his kennel clean. His youthful energy is contagious and you will find yourself smiling wide from ear-to-ear just by being around him.

Chloe
Chloe the talking cat, the wonderful talking cat. There’s no subject under the sun that this petite one-year-old Brown Tabby won’t chime in about and give her opinion. The problem is no one necessarily understands what she’s saying. It’s best just to nod in agreement and pat her head. When she’s not talking, she’s playing with her toys, cuddling in someone’s lap, or … thinking about what to say next. Chloe is currently available for adoption at Petsmart.

Pets of the Week April 1, 2013

Hank
Add Camp Chinquapin training to his already legion accomplishments and you have the dog-son for all seasons — Hank’s 11 and as assuredly house trained as any civilized guy ever was, gifted with great health, genteel manners, the ability to “Sit” for a treat, and a calm, trusting, and impish outlook. His Jack Russell/Hound/mix heritage shows clearly in his keen attention to you; he’ll run when you call his name, but you won’t find even a hint of hyper. Generous-hearted Hank hasn’t caused us a moment’s concern since his parents surrendered him; apparently loving everyone he meets — kids, grownups and the dog friends in his playgroup, is simply part of his inimitable savoir faire. Although he’s good on a leash Hank’s more sofa-dog than outdoorsman; his favorite assignment’s helping you watch all your favorite Netflix, cheerfully ensconced by your side, perhaps your most cultured friend, and soon the best-educated, too. Visit Hank at Camp Chinquapin and see how much additional polish this well-schooled student can acquire, and then teach him how fine it is to be part of your loving home, where he’ll never need to forgive again.

Ed
He’s a Tuxedoed 3-year-old socialite in jet black and immaculate white, but his character’s so warmly colorful it seems to span the spectrum; and Ed likes to color outside the lines, too, especially when it comes to eating. Let us hasten to say that his box-keeping’s normal, but his water doubles as a finger bowl, and his food is everywhere, with a towel draped over it who knows why — it all makes perfect sense to him, as obvious a pursuit as luxuriating in your company. Ed was found stray in Greenwood, a gentleman who knows how to live outdoors; he’s so polite he asks permission before hopping in your lap, once there he’s instantly comforting. Ed purrs and talks softly because he’s a listener — kind, patient and perceptive; as inventive as he is he can’t imagine a more enthralling place than with you (or your kids for that matter, and he’s fine with other pets, too.) Go to Petsmart and touch the color of Ed’s luscious heart, tell them the exact shade; then take him home so he can wrap you in every radiant hue of friendship, your very own maker of daily rainbows.

Pets of the Week March 25, 2013

Porter
“Newfies” are known for being “nanny dogs,” but even at a year and full grown, this Newfoundland/Chow mix Porter’s more bouncing boy than babysitter; his white grin peaks out of his dense black and white coat every second; never was a youngster more eager to please, or more capable. Porter was found stray in Hodges, he’s 60 lbs. of devoted play and stunningly adorable; we’ve already taught him to “sit” and “lie down” for a treat, and we recommend sturdy kids to match his prance-caper-cavort tranquility — your yard will never witness a happier, or more loving, scene. Porter’s the go-to boy in his playgroup, his elated outlook extends to canine friends too, and he’s fine with a harness and leash, showing him off is a given. We invite you to count the seconds ’til Porter makes you laugh; feel your own tender smile emerge the moment you meet your joyful new son.

KC
Maybe she’s a sport fisherman like her ancestors’ famous owner, but our six-toed “Hemingway cat” KC loves to paddle her magnificent mitts in her water bowl; she has the gentlest, cleanest (and most rudder-like) paws between here and Key West, and her personality’s as distinctively fun as her drinking habits. KC’s four years old, a roll on her back, rub-purr-thrilled to see you, inside-outside kind of friend, with a pretty brown face and a soft tiger body; she tolerates other pets patiently, but her focus is on excitingly human YOU. She’ll pursue you avidly through all your life’s deep seas; an everyday companion who never stops prizing you. Feel how flattering it is to be someone’s big game, and how lovely it is to be forever lured by a six-toed fisher-cat called KC.

K.C. is currently available at Petsmart located at 201 Hospitality Blvd. in Greenwood.
