Wilma loves making waves, but not the irksome kind — this enchanting little inventor with the pastel tri-color stripes will drag her heavy water bowl just enough to make the water slosh inside, then drink while it’s still moving, delicious! Four-year-old Wilma was found stray but now she’s ready for high-society; she’s full grown, forever small, and her playful appeal could hardly be bigger: she’s quick to come when you call, intrigued with a fine meow-to-person chat, and she adores a game of hide-n-seek too, as long as she finds YOU. Wilma gets along well with other cats and her well-mannered, attentive ways make her a delightful choice for children. Pets of the Week October 15, 2012


Perla is Italian for “pearl” and this gem of a dog could not be more appropriately named. Her affection is endless and available to everyone; in fact, being in the company of others is proving out to be her life’s purpose. She’s the ultimate companion dog! This Hound/Retriever mix weighs 40 lbs and is full of playful energy balanced with calm submissiveness. She walks well on a leash and is very close to being house-trained. A quiet look from her soulful brown eyes and you instantly know that everything is going to be alright, and that is a gift that is priceless, just like her.


Tiny’s no longer tiny! He was so named because of his “teeniness” when he and his two siblings came to the shelter. Both his sister and brother have been adopted and now, at 5 months old, Tiny feels he’s ready to leave the nest. He has not had any exposure to the outside world and feels more comfortable hanging out inside where he can easily access the people of the house and their most comfortable furniture. One unique physical quality is his white-tipped tail. When it’s moving, it appears as though he’s sporting a flashlight for an appendage. Adopt Tiny and let him light up your life!

Pets of the Week October 8, 2012


She’s so happy she grins ear to ear, and she struts her gorgeous Pit-girl/mix stuff so gracefully she earned the name “Broadway.” But that’s the extent of the drama in her; this intelligent 2-year-old’s so cooperative your wish is her command. She’ll “sit” and fetch with glee, and even kennel herself on request — but her heartfelt favorite place to be is right by your side. Broadway’s performed brilliantly at several community events; she’s extremely well socialized and a smash hit with kids; her popularity with other dogs shines just as brightly, but she doesn’t like to share the stage with cats. She keeps her kennel clean and wouldn’t dream of tearing up her bed like lesser dogs; our staff gives her rave reviews! (Her adoption fee’s reduced because they’ve made her their pick for October.) Broadway’s pure loyalty will light up your home as never before, come meet your family’s newest star.


He’s the epitome of young masculine gentility, lean like a hunter but in pursuit only of your friendship — alert, responsive, and affectionate, a lap cat clad in striped dignity. One-year-old Ronnie was turned in by his owner and he’s been a model citizen ever since, shy at first but quick to adjust; happy to keep company with other cats, fine with dogs, and exactly the kind of sensitive, naturally refined cat-boy you’d trust with your kids. He’s so clean he’s a pleasure to hold, his coat is sleek and velvety at once; his purr’s as quietly abundant as the rest of his good-natured gifts, and his snuggle-warmth is delightfully dependable. Pets of the Week October 1, 2012


He’ll run to you heck-for-leather when you call his name, then carefully sit on command before dispensing kisses — he’s a Camp Chinquapin grad after all, and eager to do his trainers proud. At less than a year Border Collie/mix Freddie’s already full grown but on the small side of medium, with a vastly pleasing personality that sparkles likes his clean, shiny coat. Freddie’s smart, playful and gently submissive, a jubilant, highly trainable young boy who exemplifies the focused attention the breed is known for; your affection’s his primary motivator, he likes a treat but he performs for your praise. Freddie’s beautifully socialized — he’s a popular friend in any dog playgroup, is great on a leash, and would be a trustworthy fun-maker for kids school-aged and older; he loves a toy as much as the next boy and yes, he’ll happily fetch. Freddie’s already neutered, come adopt him today; all his potential and affection are neatly packed and ready to move right into your warm, spacious heart.


He looks like an Emperor Penguin but his vibrant purr gives him away, that and his funny short-form meow that comes out “Me Me Me Me Me!” Alas, handsome six-year-old Frasier was turned in by a loving family because he couldn’t learn to share — he needs to be your only cat, but he’s the only cat you’ll need. Frasier craves a mutual admiration society with only you in it, and some outdoor space would be great too, the better to expand his kingdom. In return he’ll show up promptly for meals, keep a neatnik box, and offer his ever-so-ample companionship; he’ll keep his warm, adoring emerald eyes on you constantly, because you are his alone. If you’re looking for a big endearing guy who understands that love and ownership are one in the same, Frasier’s ready to show you that “Me and You” is the only thing better than “Me Me Me.”

Pets of the Week September 24, 2012


You can see her gentle brown freckles clearly through her white coat and her personality’s just as transparent — 2-year-old Akeela’s feminine, vulnerable and authentically eager to please; a stellar Terrier/American Pit Bull companion whose owner moved away and abandoned her; but somehow left her tender heart more receptive than ever. Akeela’s way too well-mannered to jump on you, but her shy smile and happy wag will show you her calm, dainty demeanor in seconds. Her love’s the affectionate “by your side” kind; her play style isn’t rowdy but she’d make a trustworthy friend for kids, and her devotion’s a pleasure in itself. Akeela gets along fine with other dogs but declines the company of cats, she’s extremely food motivated and would make an exciting student of your every need — some housetraining’s already evident. Go see how welcoming a big, forgiving heart can be; Akeela will dedicate her life to you and never look back.

Carson was born on someone’s property and brought here, at 10-months-small he epitomizes the sterling beauty of youth; he’s intelligent, inquisitive and enthralled with you, happy to get along with other cats and dogs too, and naturally refined and gentle with kids. Carson keeps a tidy box and a clean white chin — he’ll prod you with it softly to make a point — then follow up with some fascinating cat-boy commentary; he knows every word but “aloof.” If you’ve waited to find a nimble young companion who finds heaven in your lap, your shoulder, neck, and face — meet Carson, and see how sweetly giving a genuine friend can be.
