Chevy
Honor his intelligence and independence — proud hallmarks of his sled dog ancestry — and our majestic young almond-colored Siberian Husky/Shar-Pei mix Chevy can become the show dog of your heart and home. True to his background, one-year-old Chevy’s athletic, confident and naturally well-behaved, full of amiable energy and the potential to become a stellar family dog. He was found stray; perhaps his previous owners didn’t give him both the focused attention and the room to run he needs. Chevy’s good on a leash and already partially house trained; his heart’s as big and playful as the rest of him. We recommend an inside/outside environment for Chevy, one filled with mutual devotion. Meet the stuff that legends are made of; our legend’s name is “Chevy.”

Cindy
She’s a tortoise shell cat extraordinaire, spun of silky gold and soft onyx, with a 24-carat heart that never stops showing how “into you” she really is. Five-year-old Cindy’s a pure extrovert — attentive, outgoing, fun-loving, and the finest of friend-makers; she’ll hop on your shoulder to snuggle and visit, and then shine her sparkling social spirit on other pets too. (In fact Cindy comes from a home where she befriended a Rottweiler, don’t big dogs need buddies?). Cindy’s owner could no longer care for her, too many pets; now she’s ready to grace you and yours with a wealth of affection. Cindy’s already spayed and micro-chipped, set to start your New Year off today with the loyal companionship you both so richly deserve. Visit and wonder how you ever lived without her.

Sadie
You’ll think her kennel’s a kissing booth, but her constant affection isn’t for sale; it’s a gift from the 100% tender heart of this demure less-than-two year old American Pit Bull mix “Sadie,” a tan and white beauty so sociable she’s yet to meet anyone — dog or human, young or old — she doesn’t instantly enjoy. Playful Sadie was found stray in Ninety Six; at 52 lbs. she’s full grown and destined to be an imminently stylish family dog. Sadie knows that pretty is as pretty does; she loves to learn, and your praise plus a treat are all it takes to train her, her quick mind and listening heart will revel in your attention — she already walks proudly on a leash and she’s working on her house-training. Feel Sadie rub her velvety muzzle in your hand, her lifetime of devotion is yours to have and to hold; make her your joy today.

Felix
He’s a mythic cat-creature of epic proportions, a cross between a panda and a fullback — 19 lbs. of strong, warm and handsome, with an exquisite face, an 8 cylinder-purr and umpteen good-natured head butts — all for you. Felix is a friendship phenom, orphaned by death and illness; he’s here sporting a dapper new lion-cut, and his own outgoing nature, as amiably expansive as his ever-impressive build. Felix will come when you all him, kitten-cozy for all his weighty company; he gets along fine with other cats and dogs, is immaculate in his person and box-keeping, and he enjoys talking, too. Come watch Felix make big imaginary biscuits with his immense, gentle paws; then take this delightfully distinguished companion home forever, to share a giant happiness.

Pets of the Week December 24, 2012

Frodo
He’s a soon-to-be-polished black diamond in the rough — Camp Chinquapin bound and armed with a superlatively cooperative spirit, a friend-winning outlook and the determination to improve his already high marks in house-training. At less than two years old, our shining Lab mix Frodo will school you in all things considerate; he adores kids, walking proudly by your side on a leash, playing kindly with his canine pals and even returning to his kennel when asked. (For extra credit he gives kisses.) Frodo was turned in by his owners; they couldn’t give him the attention he deserved. Now he’s set to master every last asset needed to become a champion family dog, his heroic heart was born an A+. Frodo’s already neutered and ready to go home, where he’ll make you a lifelong student of reverent friendship and everyday fun.

Lace
She’s a politely diminutive tiger girl, full grown at one year and delightfully petite, so refined she’ll play you a Mozart Minuet with her purr, and so loving her dainty head butts will impress a lasting warm spot on your heart. One-year-old “Lace” was found stray, as ladylike as her name from the first. (Kindly forgive her expression, Lace is too modest for picture-taking; in person you’ll see how lovely she is, with soft dabs of color interspersed in her stripes, and a perfect white chin, too). Lace keeps a fine, tidy cage and enjoys other cats — but her lyrical conversation is devoted solely to you; her loyal support and strong but courteous snuggle ethic will comfort you constantly. Meet a cozy bastion of civility named Lace, and feel the sweet cadence of newfound friendship begin today.

Pets of the Week December 17, 2012

American Bulldog enthusiasts praise her breed as “loyal, reliable, alert and self-confident, with a genuine love for children,” and indeed lovely Charlotte fulfills each of these definitive traits, in her own sublimely beautiful way. At a little over a year old she’s an immaculate example of family dog talent; she’ll romp the yard, toss a ball, and race lovingly for you when called; she’s impressively sensitive to little ones, her smile never leaves when she’s leash-walking, and she shows absolute promise on her house-training. (Cats? No thanks.) Charlotte was found stray, a painful loss for someone else but the find of dog-loving lifetime for you. Her pure devotion is ready and waiting, come claim your classic American prize.

If you assume a cat named “Mouse” would be a quiet, drab-gray individual, with a tendency to scuttle through mazes and nibble cheese, think again: our Mouse is a lustrous ebony gentleman with a fine alto purr, an infinitely polite 2-year-old who asks properly for his food — and the only maze that interests him is the one that connects your ankles, lap, hands and chin endlessly, a puzzle of his own invention and his favorite place to be. Mouse was found stray, apparently just out of feline finishing school; he turns his head under warmly when you pet him, offering all his tender places to your touch; he’s gently playful, full grown but modestly sized, enjoys going out so he can come back in, and would make a magnificent choice for a child or anyone who appreciates how lovingly refined a cat companion can be. Begin your sumptuous new friendship today, just ask for a man named Mouse.

Pets of the Week December 10, 2012

Her cool was as flawless as her warm response to the crowd at the recent Pet Smart event; but then well-rounded — and fun loving — perfection is Paula’s downright model-dog trademark. Her curly-tailed 17 lb. Terrier/Chihuahua/mix composure is ginormous, even when engulfed by noisy kids and mastiff-sized canines; and she seems to be house-trained, too. Two-year-old Paula was found stray in Callison but she must have had a nice family once — she’s already spayed, enjoys leash-walking, adores her play group and appears to have known cats all her life. Call her to you and she’ll come at a run, grinning delightfully — toys hold no interest for Paula, the object of her unfaltering affection is always you. There’s a twinkle in Paula’s eye that looks like mischief, but the only trouble she’ll cause is how to give back all that she’ll give; see how entertaining a supremely trustworthy friend can be.

She’ll drape in your hands like a jungle cat napping in a tree, but at 6 months and almost grown Robin’s a very tiny tigress even by our standards. What she lacks in size she makes up for in patience — she’ll quietly let her beloved roommate put her in a headlock and respond only with a gentle rub when the bigger cat decides to let go. Generosity comes easily to Robin; she was born, unwanted, on property in Ware Shoals, now she appreciates your attention, and will contribute her last lovely spot and stripe to please. Her neatly formed little body is wildly beautiful and her miniature face and chiseled chin will poke right through your reserve. Robin wants to be a gentle, child-sized pet for your kids and a Bengal-stylish sidekick for you, she’s happy to live inside and out as long as she knows she’s home. Come hear how softly she can pour an eternity of purrs, and fall prey to the petite majesty of a forever-little girl named Robin.
