Betty
Good manners make great fun, and our year-and-a-half-young Boxer mix Betty is here to politely prove it. Throw her beloved tennis ball and LOL when she races back with it — she’ll sit (quivering with anticipation) until you throw again, and again, and again. Betty’s a gentle, exuberant athlete who knows how to give soft kisses and how NOT to mess in her pen, she appears to be housebroken. True to her breed background she’s destined to be your cherished family dog, a devoted playmate with a medium-sized body just right for hugging, thoroughly smitten with you and yours (she says “no thanks” to other pets.) See Betty have a blast without breaking etiquette, try to fit 2 tennis balls in her mouth and still smile, and fulfill every one of your faithful dog-daughter dreams.

Ezmerelda
She’s picture-perfect from a distance, an elegantly composed feline clad in long silky white hair with exquisite pastel orange on her face; but zoom in for more than a pet and a soft head butt and gorgeous 4-year-old Ezmerelda may object a little. Ezmerelda was found stray, she looks like a pampered house cat but would enjoy a little space — perhaps as your incredibly stylish barn-or-outside cat. (Of course she’ll always be available for her own Ezmerelda-style glide-by, complete with a contented purr as infinitesimal as her coat is sumptuous.) See this lovely cat-portrait come to life, and take dazzling Ezmerelda home to adore and adorn your home.

Pets of the Week March 24, 2014

Emma
Her sweet disposition is as classically appealing as her name — Black Lab/Hound mix “Emma” wants nothing more than to love and be loved by you, and a big yard to run (and sniff) in would also be oh-so-nice. Eight year old Emma’s too considerate to jump on you, she simply jumps for joy close to you and then gives a loving kiss; she enjoys other dogs, is great on a leash, and would form a mutual admiration society with your kids in 10 seconds flat. Emma would be a good as an inside pet with outside play space. She’s gentle but active, comes happily when called, and is so cooperative she’ll kennel herself on request. Genuine friendship awaits, the kind that stands the test of time; come meet a treasure named Emma.

Venus
She’s named for the Roman goddess of love and beauty, but big-kitten Venus is too busy playing, purring and snuggling to notice such fancy things; at 6 months young she’s the perfect age for your kids, full of mischief and merriment but not too fragile or boisterous for them to handle. Venus was found stray with her sister, her immaculate black and white coat makes it easy to live up to her namesake’s “beauty” and the “love” comes as naturally as breathing. Visit Venus at Petsmart today and leave the myth behind, make her warm face next to yours a real and lasting delight.

Pets of the Week March 17, 2014

Bradi
The clean white markings on her chest and feet make her “flashy” according to breed connoisseurs, but our beautiful fawn-colored Boxer mix Bradi’s too nice a girl for that term. At 2 years old and 61 lbs she’s a model of pure wholesomeness, and she epitomizes the bright energy and devotion to family her ancestors are known for. Visit Bradi and she’ll gallop to you gleefully when you call, stop short and lean in warmly, walk by you proudly on a leash, and bask quietly in mutual affection when you pick her up in your arms. Bradi would be a brilliant choice for your kids (she’s too gentle to “box”) and a lifelong joy for you; come see how exciting a nice girl’s love can be.

Desmond
He’s the understated “cool” we admire from near and far, a feline Steve McQueen who’s strong, quiet and self-reliant, clad in a buff and white coat that’s a dream in itself — and all at only 1 year old. Desmond was found stray, an outside cat with a natural attraction to humans; he’s relaxed and easygoing around other cats (confident types see no need to assert themselves), clean, handsome and as pleasing as he is low maintenance. Come see how tender a tough guy can be, and claim Desmond’s star quality friendship for your own.

Pets of the Week March 10, 2014

Frank
Take a Blue Tick Hound and turn him burnished auburn, add a ringing bay and an equally pure disposition, and you have the formula for our colorful character Frank; a refined 2-year-old Coonhound mix who exemplifies the many traits his breed is adored for. Frank’s intelligent, affectionate, patient and social; he’s good with other dogs, and would make a superlative friend for kids of all sizes or a delightful companion for a single with room to play. At 60 lbs he’s full grown but wouldn’t dream of knocking you over; he’s so cooperative he’ll kennel himself on request, is working on his house training and enjoys a nice squeaky toy. See how well Frank’s glossy coat matches the hue of your heart.

Ceasar
His tiny, tender meow’s a giveaway — despite his strongman size, handsome, long haired Caesar’s as gentle as they come, a dignified 3-year-old in a luxurious gray coat, who’ll conquer your heart in an instant. Meet Caesar and he’ll revel in your attention, offering some sturdy biscuit-making and a soft purr in return; he was shy at first but has evolved beautifully. Caesar would be thrilled to be your inside/outside cat (or outside only, as long as you’re there to pass the time of day and enjoy a warm head-butt); he gets along fine with other felines, and bigger kids who aren’t too boisterous. Meet Caesar and see what a victory a quiet friendship can be.

Pets of the Week March 3, 2014

Blu
He’s a classically handsome water-dog gentleman, house trained and beautiful on a leash, a Chocolate Lab Retriever mix as appealingly stylish as his name — “Blu.” Six-year-old Blu is 75 lbs of calm companionship, he’s patient and trustworthy with kids, enjoys other dogs, will “sit” on command, and would love to hit the lake with you this summer (he’s so drawn to water he plays in his bowl.) See how well-mannered a big Southern boy can be, and how timeless Blu will look sitting in your boat, or simply by your side.

Catalina
Her persona’s as full-figured as the rest of her — alluring Catalina’s a declawed diva with deep-pile torti fur, a magnanimous, welcoming purr, and as passionate a head-butt-hello as you’ll encounter in polite society. At 13 years she’s perfected her skills as a chatty co-conspirator and lap anchor, she has eons of insight to give, and she’ll dispel the slightest whiff of loneliness that might have the audacity to come your way. Put Catalina in your corner and there’s nothing to fear, her allegiance is mighty and her entertaining ways will comfort you always. Treat yourself to the original BFF, your new girlfriend Catalina’s waiting to make your life complete.
