Carmel is so-named because of the swirling honey, tan, and golden colors in her coat that make her look like the creamy candy treat. And it goes without saying that her personality is just as sugary sweet. This six-month-old mellow yellow kitty is exactly what the doctor ordered for anyone wanting a deliciously affectionate feline companion. If you had a dollar for every one of his handsome pale freckles you’d both be worth a million, but you can’t put a price on the warm, buoyant spirit of our exquisitely colored American Heeler/American Staffordshire terrier mix “Cash.” At 1 ½ years young he was a terrific match for the kids at Camp Good Dog, where he hugged and kissed without incident, always excited but ever gentle, trustworthy even with little ones. Cash enjoys other dogs but visibly thrives on your attention; he’s eager to please and a trainer’s dream. He can already sit, lay and shake hands for a treat, and proudly take your kids for a leash walk, too. (He also keeps his kennel really clean.) Cash’s perfect parent will give him exercise, enrichment, training and supervision and make sure he’s comfortable in his new home. Meet him and receive a kiss as soft as his coloring, then take him home and feel the heart-riches only our Cash can bestow.

There’s a constant look of earnest concern on her heart-shaped face, but then being a smoky orange Velcro-cat is a worrisome task, especially if staying close to you is as important as it is to 3-year-old Heidi. Heidi was found stray, a slender, perceptive slip of a girl, spilling over with quiet affection and softly insistent meow-sounds (she’s a willing conversationalist and she punctuates with purrs.) Gentle Heidi’s kind to other cats too, her talent for friendship’s universal; she’s already spayed and ready to go home today. She’s the Kate Middleton version of an American Staffordshire Terrier mix — athletic, well-mannered and perennially pleasing, with one major difference; Kate’s tall and our one-year-old Princess Bonnie’s forever petite, full grown at only 33 lovely lbs., a black and white beauty no bigger than medium. Bonnie’s a recent graduate of our Camp Good Dog, where she thrived on the attention of kids aged 8-14, learned to “sit” and “lie down,” showed how gracefully she could run laps around the yard, and offered the gift of her non-stop smile, luscious pink tongue and all. Bonnie adores the dogs in her play group but knows when to be patient; she’s calm and wise for a young girl, guided by her own kind heart. A warm home with room to run, some lively kids or another pet would be just her cup of tea. Bonnie’s here and ready for you to rub her royal belly, see how much joy her sovereign friendship will bring.

Picture two tiny Luna moths in an ebony sky and you’ll know her face, but for all her stunning, long-haired good looks her name’s sweetly down home — simply “Mama.” At only three, Mama’s already had a busy life, she was turned in with an accidental litter of kittens, too many pets to care for; now she’s with us and starting fresh. She’ll come when you call her, and answer you too, savoring every stroke of your gentle petting, and swishing her exquisite, feathery tail with pleasure to show you how much your caress means to her. For now our smallish girl’s a little shy about being held, but her thrill at your attention’s there; she’s also a fine shelter citizen — a tidy box keeper, and tolerant of other cats, (dogs too). Look into her luminous green eyes and see Mama’s future, one in which her pristine affection will be prized and returned, in a home as loving as yours.

He’s a magnet of a cat, so charming he even sleeps adorably, flat on his back with his legs up and his paws curled in; but then our 1 ½ year old Dane’s just as beguiling when he’s awake — he’s alert, intelligent, lavishly handsome and utterly intrigued — with you. (Oh yes, he’s affectionate, too; he’ll rub his face over you with abandon, and you’ll only ask for more.) His silky tiger and white fur’s as enticing as his attention, you’ll need to sink your fingers in, no permission needed. Dane’s gentle and well-mannered, a fine choice for kids and other cats; he’s currently surrounded by females in his big cage (just friends mind you, he’s neutered) and all’s well. Feel the flattery of Dane’s intent gaze, then take him home and enjoy the everyday pull of his warm, fascinating, forever friendship.

Rowdy’s luminous personality is a full 1,000 watts — he’s thrilled to see you 24/7, with a beaming smile and a full-body wag to prove it, but ask this lustrous 2-year-old black and white Retriever/mix to come back to his kennel after a race around the yard and he’ll politely oblige; and he’ll proudly show you how he can sit, shake and lie down for a treat before settling in, too. Rowdy’s another mystery-stray; we picture him in the middle of an outgoing family, the kind that knows how to love and play, with sturdy kids who’ll enjoy a devoted friend whose job it is to wear them out. Rowdy gets along well with other dogs (exuberant and otherwise) and he’s already neutered. See how brightly his eyes shine the moment they first meet yours, and how little energy it takes to fall for a glowing young boy named Rowdy.

She presides prettily over all in her purr-vue, the color of orange sherbet with whipped cream; and if you come her way she’s sure to greet you — making conversation is 2-year-old Allie’s forte, being beautiful’s just a sideline. (At the Adoption Center she stationed herself at the front of our big cage, a meow-emissary for all her roommates, you couldn’t get past without a polite chirp, at minimum.) Allie was found stray, an elegant tiger girl replete with social graces; she’s clean and tidy, a nice box-keeper, and she’s fine with other cats. But she’ll love YOU the best, humans big or small are so fun to talk to, outgoing Allie can hardly get enough. If you’re looking for a stylish companion who’ll happily keep your most delicious secrets, a sensitive feline sidekick who’ll read your emotions like a mood ring, or simply an intelligent friend who always says the right thing.
