He’s a magnet of a cat, so charming he even sleeps adorably, flat on his back with his legs up and his paws curled in; but then our 1 ½ year old Dane’s just as beguiling when he’s awake — he’s alert, intelligent, lavishly handsome and utterly intrigued — with you. (Oh yes, he’s affectionate, too; he’ll rub his face over you with abandon, and you’ll only ask for more.) His silky tiger and white fur’s as enticing as his attention, you’ll need to sink your fingers in, no permission needed. Dane’s gentle and well-mannered, a fine choice for kids and other cats; he’s currently surrounded by females in his big cage (just friends mind you, he’s neutered) and all’s well. Rowdy’s luminous personality is a full 1,000 watts — he’s thrilled to see you 24/7, with a beaming smile and a full-body wag to prove it, but ask this lustrous 2-year-old black and white Retriever/mix to come back to his kennel after a race around the yard and he’ll politely oblige; and he’ll proudly show you how he can sit, shake and lie down for a treat before settling in, too. Rowdy’s another mystery-stray; we picture him in the middle of an outgoing family, the kind that knows how to love and play, with sturdy kids who’ll enjoy a devoted friend whose job it is to wear them out. Rowdy gets along well with other dogs (exuberant and otherwise) and he’s already neutered. She presides prettily over all in her purr-vue, the color of orange sherbet with whipped cream; and if you come her way she’s sure to greet you — making conversation is 2-year-old Allie’s forte, being beautiful’s just a sideline. (At the Adoption Center she stationed herself at the front of our big cage, a meow-emissary for all her roommates, you couldn’t get past without a polite chirp, at minimum.) Allie was found stray, an elegant tiger girl replete with social graces; she’s clean and tidy, a nice box-keeper, and she’s fine with other cats. But she’ll love YOU the best, humans big or small are so fun to talk to, outgoing Allie can hardly get enough. If you’re looking for a stylish companion who’ll happily keep your most delicious secrets, a sensitive feline sidekick who’ll read your emotions like a mood ring, or simply an intelligent friend who always says the right thing.

He was found in a ditch with a broken leg — a sleek Plott Hound/Boxer lover-boy, a year and a half young and handsomely brindled, with a tender disposition well intact despite his injury. Facebook friends rallied to pay for surgery and now Coolio’s on his way, with a pin in his leg but not his heart, and no limp in sight. Coolio’s as smart as he is personable, is great on a leash, and loves to learn for a treat (sit, shake, and lie down are easy, he’s working on “roll over”). He’s an instant but genuine friend-maker with all living things — kids, grownups, cats and other dogs too; he’s currently the greeter at the Adoption Center, but he’ll gladly romp in the yard with his playgroup, and he loves water too. His only request’s another pet to love when you’re not home, aloneness doesn’t suit his outgoing ways. Rosalie’s colors are as mellow as she is — gray, brown and buff all melted in harmony; and there’s a tiny orange kiss on the top of her head — a hint at the ermine-soft affection you’ll feel the moment your fingertips sink into her rich coat. She started as a stray, but at 2 years old Rosalie’s already so ladylike she even wears perfectly-applied white eyeliner, the better to match her immaculate chin. She gets along beautifully with her friends in our big pen, a tidy-box keeper and team player, who’ll give you a soft chirp before settling in for a world-class snuggle. She sinks into your embrace in pure Rosalie-style, filling every millimeter between you with contentment; closeness is the most comforting thing in the world, and she’ll give you all you can hold. Joker was named after the famed comic book character not because he possesses villainous powers, but because he has one crazy wide grin. This one-year-old, medium-sized Boxer and Shepherd mix is game for play … any and all the time. A high activity home and lifestyle is exactly what this boy needs to be happy and content. Joker will be at his best with a family or person who keeps him engaged, is very interactive, and includes him in their life’s activities.

Janis’ piercing yellow eyes aren’t the only distinctive trait that will catch your attention. Her personality is one that is both intriguing and perplexing. She is mysterious and will offer just enough affection — the occasional leg rub or head butt — to keep you wanting more. However, her weakness, and the way to her heart, is food. She will interact with people, and other cats, on her terms and would be a wonderful house companion — and a clean one at that.
