Little Dead Rotting Hood

I tend to watch or read just about anything werewolf related. Comes from the Howling being one of the first horror movies I can remember seeing.

I really really regret that tendency now.

The title character is hardly in the movie at all. The story is disjointed and goes all over the place. We spend more time with the Sheriff than anyone else.

This movie is currently available on Netflix and I still feel ripped off. I cannot recommend this movie to anyone.

This move does have budget effects, but that did not affect my rating at all. I expect that from low budget movies.

The Mind’s Eye

I first heard about the Mind’s Eye on the Trick or Treat Radio podcast. Their non-spoiler review made this a must-see.

This movie is a spiritual sequel to Scanners.

We have telekinetics. Experiments. Head-splodey action. Good acting.

The special effects are outstanding for a movie that is not a high budget affair.

The movie starts out with action and keeps up the supply in a pretty consistent manner throughout the movie.

This does tell a definitive story, but leaves room for a sequel or other stories in this world.

Another movie that comes to mind when I think about this movie is From Beyond. I can’t quite put my finger on why – maybe it’s the scientist falling into his work…

An American Werewolf in London

Watched the new remastered blu-ray and love the cleaned up movie.

You can really see it in the transformation scene.

This and the Howling are the best werewolf movies in my opinion.

We follow David and his friend/ Jack, as they are backpacking across England. One night, they are attacked by an animal. David is injured, but Jack is killed.

As David recovers in the hospital, he has werewolf-themed dreams and sees a mangled Jack visit him. Jack tells him that David has become a werewolf and needs to die so that Jack and other victims can pass on.

David does not believe this and thinks the visit from Jack is a hallucination. Until the night of the full moon.

Chopping Mall

I just saw Chopping Mall for the first time. It truly lives up to 80’s horror movies. Chopping Mall was recently released on blu-ray by Vestron.

I have no idea why I skipped over this movie as a kid. It is right up my alley. While not typically counted as a slasher, this movie has many of the tropes of a slasher: stalking kills, awesome final girl, nudity/sin factor before the killer strikes…

The mall is about to get 3 new security robots that are supposed to capture intruders. According to the company rep, they will not kill or harm intruders. While the presentation about the robots are going on, we have some teenagers planning a party in a furniture store in the mall. One thing, as part of the upgrade in security, the mall will be outfitted with steel doors that are time-locked like a bank vault.

While the teenagers are having their party, the building is struck by lightning. This affects the computer controlling the robots and the robots themselves. We do not get a friendly robot like Johnny Five from Short Circuit. Nope. We get lethal robots intent on removing intruders with deadly force. They first take care of their technicians before taking out Dick Miller.

as you would expect, the partying teenagers are next on their hit list.

The new blu-ray release has many special features – including multiple commentaries and featurettes. I highly recommend picking it up.

I Am Not a Serial Killer, 2016

Starring: Laura Fraser, Christopher Lloyd, Max Records, Karl Geary

This is a slow burn movie – but well worth it. This is based on the book by Dan Wells.

This movie is currently only available on VOD. I have listened to numerous podcasts review this movie and all recommend it. And so do i.

John Cleaver is an awkward high school student working at the family funeral home. We learn that he has an interest in serial killers because he matches all the precursors of being one. He is seeing a therapist for his sociopathy.

There have been bodies turning up in their small town. Each with a different bit missing. A kidney here, an arm there.

John begins obsessing over this. Trying to figure out the killer’s M.O.

This leads him to a conclusion he was not expecting.
