Pets of the Week November 20, 2017

As a graduate of the Pawsitive Prison Program, Sonny is a bright, straight-A student who has learned over 20 skills. “Fun and freedom” are his middle name, but he also has a sweet, shy side that is oh-so endearing. Don’t let that fool you, however, for he’s an energetic fella who loves to run at top speed, toss around his favorite tennis ball or toy, and play hard with his canine friends. A fenced yard would serve him best and keep him safe. This one to two-year-old Bulldog/Terrier mix is well-versed in laying on the charm and making you fall head over heels for his adorable grin.

One would think that with Emory’s intelligent mind, he’d of been the founder of the prestigious Emory University. Inquisitive, a conversationalist, and always alert to the goings-on, this smokey gray, 5 ½ month old little boy cat is, well, needing to be in everything. Eager to know what you’re doing, how you’re doing it and why, Emory is persistent with questions and longing for answers. Some might say he’s a bit nosy, but he feels he’s simply enlightening the mind and feeding the soul. Searching for a library and Google search engine to feed his curiosity, he’d also love a family who appreciates a scholar.

Pets of the Week November 13, 2017

The name “Ice” might reflect her frosty blue eyes, but her sweet personality will melt your heart. This pretty little girl loves nothing more than to run laps around the yard, take long walks, and play with doggy toys. Ice is a beautiful 18-month-old Hound mix with a snowy white coat adorned with light brown across her ears and left eye. Pair that with her clear blue gaze, and you have a winning combination. She is never short of energy, so she’ll want a large fenced-in yard. And although she loves meeting new people, she’s not very fond of cats, so she’s looking for a home without kitty siblings.

As large as he is, he should probably be called “Big Mack.” His handsome gray and white coat echoes his attractive personality, and you’ll quickly win him over by spending every available moment scratching his ears and petting him gently. He’s not a fan of being picked up and carried around, however, so his ideal home won’t have younger children who may be tempted. At just over 2 years old, he finds cat toys enticing, so he’ll be delighted to spend quality time chasing ribbons and batting around catnip mice. And once he’s all played out, you’ll probably find him napping in a window, soaking up the sun.

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok is the best Thor movie to date, in my opinion. We get some good comedy and action along with dire consequences.

Thor: Ragnarok combines several storylines from the comics (Contest of Champions, Planet Hulk, Ragnarok) and gives us one of the funniest Marvel movies.

I was excited to see what Taika Waititi would do with this franchise. I loved What We Do in the Shadows.

Thor:Ragnarok does a nice job of clearing the field and leaves the Asgardians with almost a reset.

Thor begins by defeating Surtur and returning to Asgard. Where he sees a nice little play about the death of Loki. He quickly reveals that Loki has been impersonating Odin and they head to Earth to pick up Odin.

We get a little cameo from Dr. Strange. Odin tells the brothers of their unknown, older sister, Hela and she makes her appearance. Thor and Loki attempt to fight Hela, but she crushes Mjolnir and throws them both out of the Rainbow Bridge.

Thor falls out of a portal onto the GrandMaster’s planet and is forced to fight. He comes across the Hulk and a couple of Asgardians. They plan to return to Asgard to fight Hela. In the meantime, Hela has invaded Asgard and slaughtered a good portion of the population.

I do not want to go any further into the plot. But this does lead into Avengers: Infinity War.

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Taika Waititi

Pets of the Week November 6, 2017

The “J” in S.J. stands for “Jell-O” because he melts into laps and then wallows like a big helping of the jiggly dessert. S.J. often plays coy offering an irresistible “feel sorry for me” face, but quickly lights up with his dazzling smile begging for neck scratches and snuggle time. Although he loves people, he’s a bit picky when it comes to selecting his canine companions. And at just a little over one-year-old, this large-sized mixed breed isn’t short on energy and can jump impressively high, so he’s hoping to find a forever home with someone who shares his love for being active.

Not only does Jason sport half of a Charlie Chaplin mustache, just like the silent screen star’s infamous character, “The Tramp,” he’s also had a tough little life. He was found as a lost kitten trying to figure out how to survive on his own. His dogged determination, with the help of a kind stranger, paid off. He’s now able to relax knowing he’s fed regular meals and can enjoy a warm bed. Jason isn’t camera shy. In fact, he’s quite the glamour puss happily posing for pictures whenever anyone wants to snap a few shots to show off to their friends.

Jigsaw

Jigsaw is the latest entry in the Saw series. A movie series that practically defines torture porn. The first Saw is still my favorite in the series. But Jigsaw was a fun romp in October.

We all know the plot. A group of people who are guilty of something are gathered and forced to play a game. Death, maiming and cussing follow. We have the authorities working to identify the killer as this is set after Jon Cramer’s “death”

You’ll get you 3rd act twists and turns. And an open end that will easily allow the series to continue.

And as much as I was not a fan of the latter sequels in the series, I want there to be a Saw movie every October (or every other). We need a horror franchise out there hitting theaters regularly. We had that with Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and more recently the Paranormal Activity series.

Starring: Matt Passmore, Tobin Bell, Callum Keith Rennie, Hannah Emily Anderson, Clé Bennett, Laura Vandervoort, Paul Braunstein, Mandela Van Peebles, Brittany Allen, Josiah Black
