Violet
Patiently sitting in her kennel, Violet wags her tail and smiles wide at every passerby. She loves to see new faces because her wonderful leash manners have made her a volunteer favorite for walks around the Civic Center. Her chestnut and white coat sparkles in the sun as she pads down the walkway, never thinking of pulling or tugging the leash. This 8 year old lady only leaves your side to roll in the grass and beg for belly rubs. Violet’s good etiquette extends to people of all ages and dogs of all sizes, and her house manners are just as polished. This American Staffordshire terrier mix is well suited for indoor life and just waiting for a couch to call her very own! Ever patient, Violet is hoping for a chance to love a family with her whole heart and make a home complete.

Festus
Brimming with fun and bursting with cheer, Festus lives up to his name. Latin for festive, his name is just one facet to this gem of a cat. Soft and squeezable, he prefers to be in contact with his people. He purrs and flexes when petted, showing off brown tabby stripes and clean white patches accenting his coat. At 3 years old, he has past the pesky kitten stage, but has kept an ever friendly energy flowing freely. He is ready to be a breath of fresh air to a forever family, and he has perfect poise indoors with tidy litter box manners. Children of all ages and families of 1 to 100 are just fine for this playful feline. He is only waiting for YOU, and then the festivities can begin!

Pets of the Week May 12, 2014

Willie
He’s an eye-catching Hound with old-fashioned charm, and that is just scratching the surface of this big galoot. As far as Willie is concerned, surface scratching is nice but ear scratches are better, and belly rubs are just the best. With just 2 years under his belt, he has grown to be one of the largest and sweetest Coonhound mixes seen at the shelter. Willie keeps his kennel clean and plays well with other dogs, though he does seem to prefer the smaller pets, perhaps so he can keep his “big man on campus“ status. Willie is right at home romping around the yard, but having his own space is what he really craves. He is a perfect gentleman who would fit in any family with older children who can stand up to his stature. All he needs is the right family to open their hearts to this big fella and he can make their lives complete!

Bobby
When Bobby arrived at the shelter he was shy, he had a few nicks and scrapes, and no tail. How he got into that physical condition was a bit of a mystery, but love and care worked their magic and, as time passed, his wounds healed and his fantastic nature shined blossomed. His bright lemon yellow eyes shine when he sees new faces, and he turns into a “master muffin maker” when getting petted. At 2 years young, he has perfected his purr and settled into indoor life, keeping his litter box tidy and his soft coat dove grey and white coat clean. Bobby is ready for a new chapter in his story and is looking for a warm lap to nestle in to and a caring home to enjoy.

Pets of the Week May 5, 2014

Leara
Her dancing heart was clearly untouched by whatever left the ballerina-pink scar on her side. 2 year old Am/Staff Terrier mix Leara’s as delicately feminine a young friend as you’ll find, a 48 lb. stunner who’s gentle, demure and graceful in every way. Whether she’s prancing the yard, sitting for a treat, or walking cheerfully on a leash, her pure, calm affection is unwavering. Trustworthy Leara would make an enchanting playmate for kids big and small, and is so well-mannered she’d fit happily into your home. Come marvel at the beautifully composed prima companion you’ve been missing.

Senna
You could call him “mellow-yellow” but that only describes his exceptionally harmonious personality; Senna’s really deep orange and alabaster white, a slender, handsome, 2 year old biscuit-maker whose snuggle capabilities are rivaled only by his constant head-butts. Serene Senna would be a magnificent choice for even small children; he gets along famously with other cats, keeps a way-tidy box, only stops purring when he sleeps, if then, and gives more of himself than he asks of you. Senna’s already neutered and ready to adopt, come meet him today and see
how indescribably easy an ardent friendship can be.

Pets of the Week April 28, 2014

Digger
Handsome year-old Hound mix Digger embodies all the true-blue loyalty and even disposition that make his breed an excellent pet, but the only thing he’s hunting is a family with hearts as big and amiable as his. At 60 lbs. and grown Digger’s full of gentlemanly energy — he’ll sit for a treat, walk proudly on a leash and even bark once in a while (we’ve never heard him bay.) Learning commands is one of Digger’s favorite pastimes, but his most joyful pursuit is simply being next to you. Digger needs a nice yard for running, and could live happily outdoors with snug living quarters and plenty of affection, which he’ll never stop returning. Sniff out the lifelong companion you deserve, Digger will pledge you his soul and never look back.

Myrna
Folklore says a Torti cat, or “money cat” like Myrna brings good luck; indeed this lovely 3-year-old will pay you in purrs, post-haste — from her midnight coat threaded with bright coppery gold, to her polite social demeanor, her cozy head butts and always-tidy box, she’s a treasure trove of pleasantries. Myrna gets along fine with other cats, keeps herself fastidiously clean (shouldn’t copper highlights gleam?), weighs only 8 lbs., and is so gentle she even takes medicine without a fuss; she’d be a delightful choice for your kids and could thrive inside/outside or inside only. Let Myrna rub you with her precious-metal markings, and revel in her wealth of affection forever.

Pets of the Week April 21, 2014

Fairy Princess
Her wings are not be easy to spot, but after you meet Fairy Princess she will most assuredly soar into your heart. Arriving at the shelter all alone, and heartworm positive, this 2 year old pup was in need of a major transformation. Her magical qualities shined through her struggles and she showed everyone that she was the friendliest Fairy around — adoring other dogs, friendly felines, and people of all ages. Princess wowed all again with her impeccable house manners, politely waiting to be let outdoors to potty. Clean and quiet, this shepherd mix’s short coat is easy to keep clean. Add in her medium frame and this little wonder fits perfectly into castles big and small. Her heartworm treatment almost complete, Fairy Princess is looking ahead to the next chapter in her story. Her happy ending is just waiting to be written by a loving family willing to make her a part of their home!

Dizzy
Plush as the most beloved Teddy Bear, with emerald green eyes and soft padded feet, Dizzy puts forth his best effort to fit perfectly into your heart. He has spent much of his 2 years outside, fending for himself, but this handsome feline has decided the housecat life is the one for him. Dizzy sports a short coat patched with black and white which he keeps spiffy and neat. His kennel stays just as clean and he’s more than happy to share it. Dizzy prefers company and cats, dogs, and people all do the job nicely! His personality reaches its peak when he’s sharing his time with others because toy mice are twice as nice if there is someone else playing along!
