Pets of the Week March 10, 2014

Frank
Take a Blue Tick Hound and turn him burnished auburn, add a ringing bay and an equally pure disposition, and you have the formula for our colorful character Frank; a refined 2-year-old Coonhound mix who exemplifies the many traits his breed is adored for. Frank’s intelligent, affectionate, patient and social; he’s good with other dogs, and would make a superlative friend for kids of all sizes or a delightful companion for a single with room to play. At 60 lbs he’s full grown but wouldn’t dream of knocking you over; he’s so cooperative he’ll kennel himself on request, is working on his house training and enjoys a nice squeaky toy. See how well Frank’s glossy coat matches the hue of your heart.

Ceasar
His tiny, tender meow’s a giveaway — despite his strongman size, handsome, long haired Caesar’s as gentle as they come, a dignified 3-year-old in a luxurious gray coat, who’ll conquer your heart in an instant. Meet Caesar and he’ll revel in your attention, offering some sturdy biscuit-making and a soft purr in return; he was shy at first but has evolved beautifully. Caesar would be thrilled to be your inside/outside cat (or outside only, as long as you’re there to pass the time of day and enjoy a warm head-butt); he gets along fine with other felines, and bigger kids who aren’t too boisterous. Meet Caesar and see what a victory a quiet friendship can be.

Pets of the Week March 3, 2014

Blu
He’s a classically handsome water-dog gentleman, house trained and beautiful on a leash, a Chocolate Lab Retriever mix as appealingly stylish as his name — “Blu.” Six-year-old Blu is 75 lbs of calm companionship, he’s patient and trustworthy with kids, enjoys other dogs, will “sit” on command, and would love to hit the lake with you this summer (he’s so drawn to water he plays in his bowl.) See how well-mannered a big Southern boy can be, and how timeless Blu will look sitting in your boat, or simply by your side.

Catalina
Her persona’s as full-figured as the rest of her — alluring Catalina’s a declawed diva with deep-pile torti fur, a magnanimous, welcoming purr, and as passionate a head-butt-hello as you’ll encounter in polite society. At 13 years she’s perfected her skills as a chatty co-conspirator and lap anchor, she has eons of insight to give, and she’ll dispel the slightest whiff of loneliness that might have the audacity to come your way. Put Catalina in your corner and there’s nothing to fear, her allegiance is mighty and her entertaining ways will comfort you always. Treat yourself to the original BFF, your new girlfriend Catalina’s waiting to make your life complete.

Pets of the Week February 24, 2014

Denzel
“Mr. Popularity,” “Most Likely to Succeed,” and “Best Tennis Ball Grabber” are just a few of the superlatives Denzel has achieved! Handsome and smart, at only 7 months old he already has so much to give to a forever family. A Boston Terrier mix, he is carrying on the proud tradition of being a loyal companion. He wins over the hearts of every dog he meets and treats cats with the same love and affection even if it isn’t returned. Denzel shines brightest with children and adults, making everyone who visits him smile and laugh. Only 25 pounds, with a short, soft, black and white coat, he would fit easily in homes of all sizes as long as he gets plenty of walks and play times.

Tom
Worldy and wise, Tom is our free spirited feline. He has an “I’ve seen it all” personality that makes him very laid back and comfortable in any situation. He has learned over his 8 years that he isn’t a big fan of dogs but adores people and is friendly with other cats. Tom has immaculate house manners and keeps his black and white coat perfectly groomed. When visitors come to the Adoption Center he loves to strike up a conversation, meowing and chirping like he wants to know all about you. His bright green eyes shine bright whenever he meets new people always hoping that the next family who visits him will be taking him home too. After years of adventure, Tom’s favorite pass time has become long naps curled up in the laps of kind people.

Pets of the Week February 17, 2014

Diesel
He’s the stuff your dog-loving dreams are made of; praise from volunteer dog-walkers includes “Perfect gentleman” and “Listens well,” but the overall gentility of 3-year-old Am Staff/mix golden boy “Diesel” is hard to describe. He’s 48 lbs of heart, the kind that seeks only the thrill of your company. Meet Diesel and he’ll stand to place his paws on you tenderly — a caress, Diesel-style, without a hint of boisterousness, then follow quietly at your heels, as loyal as the day is long, and far more constant . Diesel would make a lovely, trustworthy companion for your kids big or small; he’s fine with other dogs, but says “no thanks” to cats. Claim the object of your heart’s desire today, and enjoy his extraordinary friendship forever.

Honey Bear
Honey Bear may appear to be just another cat found stray and brought to the shelter, but this dashing feline is a swashbuckler at heart. He is filled to the brim with roguish charm, capturing the hearts of everyone he meets. Like a pirate, he steals strokes and caresses as he weaves around the legs of visitors and has been known to try and stow away with families in search of his forever home. His coat is patched black and white, the same as the famous Jolly Roger, and though he’s kept silent on how he lost his right eye, we are sure it was quite an adventure. At only 6 months old, this young buccaneer has proven he has a mild side too. He keeps his spaces clean and gets along merrily with other pets. Honey Bear has his gaze on the horizon now, seeking a future full of love and hoping his ship will come in soon.

Pets of the Week February 10, 2014

Baby Girl
Like the mythical Phoenix, Baby Girl rose from the ashes and was reborn a striking vision of canine beauty. She was only 22 lbs. when she was found by animal control, but you wouldn’t recognize her now – she’s gained 20 pounds since that fateful day. She’s a stunning golden-tan American Staffordshire Terrier mix and this once shy wallflower now leaps, bounds, and bunny hops to greet new people and dogs alike. Smart as she is sweet, she is a quick learner and would make a wonderful house pet. She is paying the love forward and eagerly awaiting for the next chapter in her Cinderella story to begin.

Cici
Sometimes only the best will satisfy our craving for sweet affection and CiCi is just the thing! She is as pretty as a petit four with a coat of beautiful orange marmalade with sugary white swirls. Calm and quiet CiCi is hoping for a home to snuggle right into. She’s had 3 years to perfect her lap warming skills, and she likes to paw at you gently when she wants you to keep scratching her chin. She always keeps her dainty paws and face clean but that was hard to do when she was lost on the streets. Now life’s all about fluffy beds and cozy cuddles and she only needs a family full of love to be the cherry on top! CiCi is so sweet she’s practically decadent and waiting to sweeten up the life of your loving home.
