Gabby
You just found the “happy” in your Happy New Year — year and a half year young Shepherd/Hound mix Gabby will make you LOL when she gallops around the yard, but she’s thrilled to be close to you, too. She’ll come full throttle when you call her, stop just in time to keep from jumping on you, “sit” on command and enjoy a nice rope-toy tug-of-war — then lean against you warmly. Gentle Gabby was found stray, complete with her own highly civilized and playful approach to friendship; we picture her as an inside/outside pet with an active family who’ll spend time loving and training her. Come see the medium-sized beauty who’ll bring out the inner puppy in you; Gabby will make every day a holiday in your home.

Georgia
She carries the signature white tip on her tail like a friendship torch, making the rest of her ultra-plush body seem even blacker. But then our 2-year-old girl “Georgia” knows a thing or two about style, and she’s willing to share her secrets. Georgia was found stray and brought to us, full of purring social confidence and her own attentive way of making you feel special; hold her like a baby and she’ll relax in your arms, so affectionate you don’t know who’s snuggling who. Georgia’s OK with other cats and fully devoted to you; her gentle demeanor makes her a magnificent choice for children, who’ll delight in her ermine-soft companionship. Go see this lovely young cat at Petsmart whose charm extends to the very tip of her tail, then take her home and watch her magic begin.

Pets of the Week December 23, 2013

Patch
His playful energy’s as infinite as his black, white and brindle good looks; one-year-old Am Staff Terrier/mix “Patch” is a good clean kid who’ll run for a tennis ball as many times as you’ll throw it, he’ll wear out your young ones without losing his tender smile — or his nonstop wag. But ask him to return to his run and he’ll listen, Patch plays hard but he’s cooperative at heart, just look into his youthful face and see. Patch is eager to be trained by your active family; he’s highly food-motivated and can already “sit” for a treat, he likes other dogs, too. All Patch wants for Christmas is a nice yard, a warm shelter and plenty of attention from you; come get him and bring home unlimited fun, and endless devotion, too.

Mi
Four-month-old Mi was plucked from a feral colony at only a few weeks old and went from skittish to lover boy in about five minutes flat, then uttered his first word —“Me.” His devoted foster family thought the name “Me” sounded self-centered, so changed to the more stylish “Mi,” and the tiny black kitten was off and running in the world of human affection. Mi is ensconced safely at Petsmart, waiting contentedly for you to come and receive all the fervent kisses he has in store for you; he gets along happily with other cats but is most ardently attracted to his humans. Visit him is his cozy cat condo and take home a purring package of holiday cheer that will last you for years to come — your very own, forever-merry “Mi.”

Pets of the Week December 16, 2013

Olivia
Named after the character “Ol’-livia” from The Color Purple, this Olivia’s deep amber eyes express the spirit of an old soul. Her eyes will warm your heart and her cuter-than-cute underbite will make you smile. This 2-yr Boston Terrier mix is a coy girl for sure. Her idea of play is to shyly stay just out of reach for a few moments, then leaping forward asking for and giving kisses galore. Olivia’s house-ready, enjoys leash walks, and loves dogs and people of all ages. Meet this sweet girl who’s ready to share yuletide joy with a loving family.

Miss Priss
Your touch is a luxury she seems to have missed forever, but then a lady of 10 years understands the value of a fine caress and returns it in purr-force, with a gracious head-butt, an emphatic face-rub and a cheery thank-you chirp. “Miss Priss” is anything but standoffish; never was a more appreciative or affectionate stray found. She comes when you call her, quick to join in a juicy conversation and revel in all things social, a blast of a companion who knows how to get along with other cats, and keep a nice box too. Meet our oh-so-pleasant Miss Priss and take her home for Christmas; you’ll feel warm every time you remember you brought her in from the cold, and every moment she shows you her endless gratitude.

Pets of the Week December 9, 2013

Boo Boo
Just like the diminutive brown cartoon character he’s named after this Boo Boo is teddy bear adorable. He’s a Chow/Corgi mix and around five-years-young. Having spent time tethered to a chain with little social interaction, he learned to be independent and to keep himself entertained. When he is offered freedom to run and play in the yard he makes the most of it. Boo Boo keeps his kennel immaculate and has been described by volunteers simply as “an awesome dog.” Visit Boo Boo today if you have it in your heart to give this bundle of fluff a life of fun, freedom, and family.

Jax
The Matthew McConaughey of cats, laid-back Jax is a three-year “apple-headed” Brown Tabby who was found in the city flirting with passersby. And that hasn’t stopped. He’s an accomplished leg-rubber, full-time talker, and non-stop purrer. Whether he’s an indoor or outdoor kitty friend this cat will not disappoint. He offers as much affection as you can handle, but also enjoys his own zen quiet time playing the bongos. If a low maintenance pet is what suits your lifestyle, Jax is your guy! Visit him at Petsmart in Greenwood today to experience his power of persuasion.

Pets of the Week December 2, 2013

Scooby
He’s an Adonis of a dog, 38 lbs. of glowingly handsome manners, a 4-year-old American Staffordshire mix friend who’ll lay his head on your shoulder tenderly, play carefully with your young ones, and come at a run when you call — but never jump on you. “Scooby” is as popular with his dog playgroup as he is with kids, and just as trustworthy; pick him up to hug him and he’ll relax calmly in yours arms, because that’s exactly where he wants to be. See that a flawless family dog’s no myth at all; then make Scooby part of your happy reality.

Maya
She’s a 3-year-old Balinese mix beauty queen, set to stride down the runway and right into your heart, and she’s bringing the assets of her breed background with her — her silky, medium-length coat, vivid blue eyes, wedge-shaped head, and her long, slim body, too. Maya’s a rescue-Cat Fancier’s dream, she’s smart (the Balinese is rated highest in intelligence of all long-haired breeds), attentive, and outgoing; a gentle, affectionate friend for your children and an insightful ally for you. Maya’s petite underneath her airy coat, only 8 lbs.; she gets along graciously with other cats, and she keeps a tidy box, befitting her Balinese beauty status. Hear Miss Congeniality purr, she’ll win you in an instant, and you’ll never want to put her down.
