Diesel
He’s the stuff your dog-loving dreams are made of; praise from volunteer dog-walkers includes “Perfect gentleman” and “Listens well,” but the overall gentility of 3-year-old Am Staff/mix golden boy “Diesel” is hard to describe. He’s 48 lbs of heart, the kind that seeks only the thrill of your company. Meet Diesel and he’ll stand to place his paws on you tenderly — a caress, Diesel-style, without a hint of boisterousness, then follow quietly at your heels, as loyal as the day is long, and far more constant . Diesel would make a lovely, trustworthy companion for your kids big or small; he’s fine with other dogs, but says “no thanks” to cats. Claim the object of your heart’s desire today, and enjoy his extraordinary friendship forever.

Honey Bear
Honey Bear may appear to be just another cat found stray and brought to the shelter, but this dashing feline is a swashbuckler at heart. He is filled to the brim with roguish charm, capturing the hearts of everyone he meets. Like a pirate, he steals strokes and caresses as he weaves around the legs of visitors and has been known to try and stow away with families in search of his forever home. His coat is patched black and white, the same as the famous Jolly Roger, and though he’s kept silent on how he lost his right eye, we are sure it was quite an adventure. At only 6 months old, this young buccaneer has proven he has a mild side too. He keeps his spaces clean and gets along merrily with other pets. Honey Bear has his gaze on the horizon now, seeking a future full of love and hoping his ship will come in soon.

Pets of the Week February 10, 2014

Baby Girl
Like the mythical Phoenix, Baby Girl rose from the ashes and was reborn a striking vision of canine beauty. She was only 22 lbs. when she was found by animal control, but you wouldn’t recognize her now – she’s gained 20 pounds since that fateful day. She’s a stunning golden-tan American Staffordshire Terrier mix and this once shy wallflower now leaps, bounds, and bunny hops to greet new people and dogs alike. Smart as she is sweet, she is a quick learner and would make a wonderful house pet. She is paying the love forward and eagerly awaiting for the next chapter in her Cinderella story to begin.

Cici
Sometimes only the best will satisfy our craving for sweet affection and CiCi is just the thing! She is as pretty as a petit four with a coat of beautiful orange marmalade with sugary white swirls. Calm and quiet CiCi is hoping for a home to snuggle right into. She’s had 3 years to perfect her lap warming skills, and she likes to paw at you gently when she wants you to keep scratching her chin. She always keeps her dainty paws and face clean but that was hard to do when she was lost on the streets. Now life’s all about fluffy beds and cozy cuddles and she only needs a family full of love to be the cherry on top! CiCi is so sweet she’s practically decadent and waiting to sweeten up the life of your loving home.

Pets of the Week January 27, 2014

Simon
Simon says “Look at this Frisbee!” Simon says “Now throw it for me!” Don’t worry; this natural born entertainer isn’t a demanding dog. It’s all fun and games to him! He’s a 30 lb barrel of monkeys looking for an active family to call his own. This fella is a mix of retriever and terrier, and has taken the friendliest parts of each. Even though he often plays fetch with himself, throwing toys in the air and leaping to catch them, he is looking for friends to join the fun. Older children and any who are young at heart are right up this goofball’s alley. Simon was found as a stray, but this 10 month old pup doesn’t let a little thing like that get him down. He knows the games will only get better from here and he can’t wait for a loving family to join in! When you visit Simon at our Adoption Center, you’ll see that every time he meets a new friend he can’t wait to start having a good time together! Simon says “Let’s get started!”

Camille
She is our feline patron of the arts. Camille is the first one calling out with musical meows when you walk into the Adoption Center. It’s as if she’s worried she may be over looked. She chirps and sings as well as any songbird, and we think she’s as pretty as a picture with her Mona Lisa smile. Even her coat is a masterpiece, milky white with mahogany striped patches, its pure expressionism. At 3 years young, Camille has all the skills of a prima ballerina when she pads over to grace you with her charms. We aren’t sure how she ended up a stray wandering through town, but now she’s yours to admire. This cultured lady always keeps clean and prim. A social butterfly, she wants more than anything to be a part of someone’s life. The only thing she’s missing is a family to love and a home to fill with her unique art.

Pets of the Week January 20, 2014

Blitzen
He’s a ton of fun and just 37 lbs! Exuberant 1-½ year old hound/mix Blitzen is the darling of the yard; he’ll gallop for a toy, race by to give a kiss, hang out for a gentle wag and zoom off again, always on his merry way. He’s affectionate but not needy, energized but gentle, an ever-smiling playmate with infinite reserves of patience. Blitzen would be the consummate sidekick for an outgoing family, or a single who thrives on happy companionship; he could easily be an apartment pet. He’s fine with other dogs and working on his house training. Call Blitzen to you today, see how eagerly he weighs in to your heart and how light it feels ever after.

Trinity
Meet nimble Trinity and you’ll see there’s nothing missing, despite the fact that she came to us with only one back leg (the other was professionally amputated) She has, after all, everything she needs to be a perfectly loving 2-year-old — a soft black “Torti” face with gold flecks that don’t rub off on you, two gentle front paws for muffin-making, a generous purr melody she’ll sing at a moment’s notice, and a personality so cheerful she makes the rest of us look unbalanced. (And yes she gets around just fine, thanks). Trinity’s OK with other cats, keeps a tidy box and looks forward to showing you how hard it is to spot her missing limb, and how easy it is to feel she makes your life blissfully complete.

Pets of the Week January 13, 2014

Lana
She’s a porcelain-pink skinned young lady underneath her clean white coat, 4 years young and radiantly affectionate, fully capable of hearing with her heart and coming to a hand signal too, not letting a small thing like deafness stand in her gentle way. American Pit Bull terrier mix Lana epitomizes femininity, she’ll run and play joyously but is too well-mannered to jump on you, and her loving disposition’s as pure as her smile. Lana’s already partially house trained and eager to become your perfect inside dog; meet her and see how an oh-so-pretty girl can become your most resilient friend, and your family’s too.

Thunder
Except for the soft rumble of her contented purr there’s nothing stormy about 2-year old tortoise shell beauty “Thunder.” (Well if you counted the lovely splashes of gold in her black coat as lightning against a night sky you might be onto something, but she’s really the most peaceful of cats, and at
8 lbs. forever small — cuddly, social, and adaptable too, she could live inside or out.) Visit Thunder at Petsmart to see how sweetly this warm, girly, muffin-making Thunder can give you your daily dose of sunshine despite her tempestuous name.
