Pets of the Week May 29, 2017

A big bundle of chocolate goodness is Baxter, a 3-year-old Retriever mix who would look super sweet on anyone’s couch. Stocky and strong, Baxter likes to get his workouts through long walks, galavanting through the yard, and jumping up to give hugs. Afterward, he likes to relax, lie in the sun, and show off his glistening Indian red coat. Baxter’s full of enthusiastic playfulness, so a family who enjoys a game of fetch and retrieve, jogging, and other fun, energetic activities would be perfect for him. Baxter is an all around American dog hoping for the ideal family and … a doggy bed to call his own.

Lula was a lost cat whose week before arriving at the shelter was spent in a tree. Only she can tell you what and why. What is known is that she has a lovely and loving personality. Affection, quiet, and calm are what she desires and appreciates most. For entertainment, she enjoys playing with an empty box or a mouse toy. Doesn’t everyone? Visit Lula, scratch under her chin, and let her share tales from the tree with you.

The Void

The Void is an interesting indie horror movie. It’s a Carpenter-esque reverse siege movie with a Lovecraft bent. I found the practical effects very enjoyable. If there were any CGI effects, they blended in very well.

The Void is currently available on VOD. There is a DVD disc available, but there are many reports of issues with the disc. The blu ray is only available at diabolikdvd.com.

The Void opens with 2 men gunning down a woman exiting a farm house. A young man gets away on foot. He makes it to a road where Sheriff Daniel Carter is sitting in his patrol car. Daniel takes the young man to the closest hospital – which is in the process of shutting down and is extremely short-staffed.

Hi-jinks ensue. From the hospital being surrounded by cultists in white garb with a black triangle on the face masks to tentacles.

I think this is worth a watch. Is this a perfect movie. Nope. You do not get a complete picture of the events on some of the people that are part of the story. But you can infer a lot. And it can be that ambiguity in a story where what you come up with is worse than anything shown that can make a movie.

Pets of the Week May 22, 2017

As black as a raven and as shiny as silk, Peony’s beauty is breath-taking. She may be dainty and petite, but she strolls around with calm confidence. She welcomes all visitors and greets each with her expressive yellow eyes. This relaxed and even-tempered young lady enjoys curling up and snuggling close. The ideal home would be as stress-free as she is because she’s all about peace. This perfect zen cat will be your meditation buddy and reminder that all is well.

He doesn’t work for State Farm, but this Jake will make sure you are insured with a lifetime of love. This big guy has nothing but affection for everyone, greeting all with an incredible grin and soft, caring eyes. This handsome Retriever mix wears a muted black coat with a brilliant white stripe down the center of his chest. His strong, athletic build allows him to chase down any tennis ball that tries to get away. Enjoying walks, hiking, game playing and big dog hugs, Jake wants you to know that he is ready and waiting for anything from an outdoor adventure to TV time.

Alien: Covenant

I have discovered that I am not a fan of prequels made decades after the original series began.

Alien: Covenant looked nice. But baring one or two scenes was very predictable. And not in a good way. Kind of Paint-by-numbers. Unfortunately, my tendency to see all things Alien and Predator were my undoing.

Pets of the Week May 15, 2017

Sure and steady Baylee is in the elite group of dogs enrolled in the Pawsitive Prison Program. She has learned over twenty skills and secured herself as a crowd favorite. She loves people and people love her. Baylee prefers to be the only dog in the family and otherwise, is laid back and lazy. However, if you would like a dog to keep you aware of any approaching visitors, Baylee will be glad to oblige. Loving, potty-trained, respects her human’s belongings, and has the manners to stay off furniture — she’s the perfect indoor doggie friend!

With her ears perfectly perked and honeydew melon eyes staring “off stage” for dramatic effect, Joan is a superstar cat who will steal the show. This theatrical black and tan Tabby has a flare for getting attention. Adore me, she says! Pet me, she says! Fluff my bed, she says! But this darling diva’s demands are well-deserved for she will move mountains to show you love. Joan is a demure lady who thrives in the spotlight both to entertain and put a smile on your heart.
