Pets of the Week January 2, 2017

What better name for a warm, fuzzy, and sweet cat than “Peaches?” This plus-size girl is sassy and proud, and the kind of friend who will tell you exactly what she thinks. Being the single-minded cat that she is, she also prefers to be the only cat that there is. She, alone, is more than capable to fulfill your pet companionship needs. She is just peachy with the comforts of indoor life, food and water dishes filled to the brim, and dreams of endless fluffy pillows to sleep upon. Visit this gorgeous brown tabby kitty and enjoy the uniqueness that is all Peaches.

At the shelter is a Hound and Shepherd mix, who loves to play and do tricks. Baylee is her name, and playing with toys is her fame, but she favors giving smooches and licks.

Pets of the Week December 26, 2016

Kris was a stray who was clearly in need of a meal or four. Now eating regularly and gaining weight, his handsome good looks and calm demeanor attract attention from everyone. But he’s a little cautious, and even a bit sad, being in the unknown surroundings of the shelter. To overcome this, Kris needs a home where he can be the blonde Retriever that he is and allowed to enjoy chasing balls and snuggling on the couch. He has many great years ahead of him and much joy to share with others.

If the size of a cat’s head indicates how smart he is, Ted is brilliant! This adult gray guy is quite laid back and seems to be a skilled observer. His safe place is a cozy corner where he can be camouflaged and take note of everything he sees. For sure he is planning to pen his great American novel. A soft pat on the head or soft rub of the shoulders is Ted’s bliss. He’s a quiet and willing friend to all.

Passengers

Passengers hit a lot of right notes for me, but it was more straight forward than I thought. I think maybe I have become a bit jaded, but I was constantly on the lookout for the “twist”. Was this really happening to our characters? Was this perhaps an elaborate simulation? Aliens? A bad trip at Re-Call? I am glad it did not meet my expectations.

Is this the Martian? Nope. But it is at parts a relationship movie and a survival movie. In Space.

Chris Pratt plays Jim, a mechanic, who is going to colonize Homestead 2. The trip from Earth will take 120 years so the crew and passengers go into hibernation or cold sleep for the journey. But Jim’s pod opens 90 years early. As Jim explores the ship, we are introduced to the environment and the technology of this universe. After a year, Jennifer Lawrence’s character Aurora, an author, wakes up. They both frequent a bar run by an android played by Michael Sheen. This android is the only other humanoid they come into contact with.

Throughout the time we see Jim and then Aurora awaken, we see small glitches on the ship. Eventually those glitches get bigger and bigger. They culminate in a failure that threatens the entire ship and everyone sleeping and awake in it.

Pets of the Week December 19, 2016

Teddy is a high-spirited 10 month old looking for a family who enjoys a feisty, alert cat who’s always ready for an adventure. Where there’s action, you’ll find Teddy. He’ll be the orange sherbet and white coated cat hippity-hopping around adding his own flavor to the situation. Visit this playful fella at Petsmart and expect having some good belly laughs watching his performance.

If you’re looking for a new beau, then be sure to spend some time with this Beau. This handsome Boxer mix has a tri-colored coat blended of black, toffee brown and bright white. He’s a people dog who is a great walking companion, a friend to play with in the yard or living room, and a cuddler who gives sweet smooches. Beau is heartworm positive and in good overall health. Call the adoption center for treatment options.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

We all know how this story is going to end. But that is not the point. It is the journey that really matters.

Star Wars has been a part of my life since as far back as I can remember. And this movie did not disappoint story-wise.

I highly recommend seeing this movie in the theater.

This movie kept the dirty aesthetics from A New Hope. The special effects were overall good. But. I do want to get my only real negative out of the way. There are 2 CGI human characters in the movie that totally take you out of it. One is only shown at the end. We did not need to see that characters face to know who it was. But the other character is in a large part of the movie. Every time I saw this character’s face, it completely removed me from the movie. This role could easily have been recast. The de-aging effect performed on Michael Douglas for Ant-Man was way more believable than the work on this character.

Okay. Negatives done. Back to gushing about the movie.
