Monty
Monty is a medium-sized, 2 year old, Labrador Retriever mix with a winning personality and out to discover the meaning of life. He’s outgoing, eager to please, and friendly with people and pets alike. Monty has a short, thick blonde coat, with touches of white on his toes and on the tip of his curly Q tail. Full of boundless energy, he loves to spend time playing fetch. His toy of choice? A tennis ball. He would almost rather have a tennis ball than a treat. He enjoys baths and being clean; he closes his eyes and smiles while the shampoo is being massaged throughout his coat. Monty is a dapper, sweet boy with a heart of gold and aspires to be a family dog or your child’s new best friend.

Heidi
Heidi is a 5 month old, short-haired kitty with a Diluted Calico coat. She is a lively kitten who loves to play with her toys, especially the dangly, tangly kind. Since she didn’t experience the normal socialization during her early months, she has a couple quirky quirks. She wants affection, but doesn’t really know how to receive it. She talks and talks to get your focus and when you reach out to give her a rub, she shyly ducks away like she’s suddenly had a change of heart. After about three times of this coy “game,” she’ll stay still and let a little love come her way. She and her sisters, June and Rose, all came to the shelter as young kittens and Heidi is the only one left still waiting for a new family to take her home.

Pets of the Week August 31, 2015

Bacon
5-year-old Bacon sizzles with lots of life to live and lots of love to give. This Plott Hound mix needs plenty of room to run, roam, and sniff about to keep him happy. His personality and dark, beautiful, brindle coat are both indicators of his breeding, but it’s his medium-length hair and small ears that let us know that there’s something else in his heritage. Bacon is a naturally energetic dog who loves to play. To keep him happy and active, keep him on a regular routine with exercise and activities and he’ll be “right as rain.” Plott hounds are pack dogs, and while most enjoy the company of other four-legged buddies, Bacon is slightly choosy on who joins his circle of friends. He tends likes dogs his size or larger. This loyal dog will thrive with someone who has time to give and can offer outlets for his social energy.

NuNu
NuNu is a slender, 3 year old, shorthaired Calico Tabby. Bubbling over with an affectionate disposition, she loves being held, cuddled, and adored. (Who doesn’t?) This little girl has a fun fashion sense and because she couldn’t choose what color to “wear” — orange, white, brown, black, yellow, gray — she decided to wear them all! She is mellow and laid-back, no matter what are her surroundings. Named for being the “new” cat in her foster home, that evolved into the more quirky “NuNu” that she’s known for today. She daydreams of having a new, or “NuNu,” furever home where she can chill out and continue her life of leisure.

Pets of the Week August 24, 2015

Mollie
This 2-year-old Amerian Staffordshire Terrier mix has gone from “rags to riches.” Mollie was found stray, malnourished, and very afraid. After arriving at the animal shelter she received the nurturing and nourishing she needed to feel well and get healthy. She quickly became staff favorite, returning the care she received with love and newfound trust. Now she takes rides with a staff member every day to get lunch and is walked regularly to work off the good food she enjoys. Besides meals and getting attention, her favorite activity is playing with toys. Tug-o-war is her go-to game and, although she has the strength to win each time, she teasingly allows her opponent to think he/she may have a chance. Miss Mollie has experienced a true makeover — inside and out — and is flourishing as a wonderfully fun and engaging canine companion ready to move into a new home and life.

Paul
Paul is a handsome gentleman cat who, at 8 yrs of age, has reached the stage of his life that his activity preference is lounging. He is at the shelter because his owner was too ill to care for him and he has seemingly acclimated to the idea of enjoying the rest of his life in different surroundings. Sharing space with cats of all ages, he is displaying a level of patience that is often not seen in cats, as he allows the younger kitties to play with his tail and run circles around him. He even tolerates playing dress up (don’t ask), and it’s often more the expression on his face that will have you smiling than the cute outfit he’s donning. Paul not only gets along with cats, he enjoys the company of well-behaved dogs as well. With football season coming up, he is trained and ready to help you cheer on your favorite teams, all while lounging next to you on a comfy couch, of course.

Pets of the Week August 17, 2015

Libby
Libby is a lively and loveable Hound pup with a short black and white coat and a face that can only be described as cheek-pinching cute. She’s medium-sized now, but at 10 months she will keep growing and need plenty of room to stretch her legs. Libby possesses great excitement and love for people. Her joy is contagious and people feel happier for being around her. With her playful heart and enduring stamina, Libby would do best in a home full of kids or healthy high-activity, and a fenced backyard where she can play with wreckless abandon. Visit Libby and let her leap into your life, lift your spirit, and brighten your every day.

Big Mama
There is no mistaking Big Mama. She’s the one who looks like she’s never missed a meal and ate everyone elses, too. A “big boned” gal with a large personality to match, this sweet five-year-old kitty is everyone’s “mama.” She firmly lets the other cats know what to do, how to do, and when to do. When her motherly directing is complete, she enjoys sitting on the highest perch she can find and keeping a watchful eye on the goings-on below. And just like a mama, she loves kids and is open to love and hugs whenever they need it. Big Mama will also keep your house tidy as her long hair sweeps the floor or rubs against the wall to give it a quick dusting. Allow your heart to be filled by opening your home to this kitty and get ready to call it Big Mama’s House.

Pets of the Week August 10, 2015

merlin
Merlin is a 1 year old American Pitbull Terrier mix, but don’t let his breed and solid build fool you. This guy is a total push-over. Like a marshmallow, Merlin is soft, squishy, and sweet. His short white coat and pink nose make him a standout in any crowd; however, these physical traits require him to be mostly an inside dog. No one wants a burnt marshmallow. Merlin happily greets all people, but when it comes to other dogs, he’s a ladies’ man through and through. Merlin loves to play and is best paired with a medium/large female doggie friend. As far as cats go, he doesn’t understand the purpose of the feline species, so cats are a no-no. Come meet this powder puff pooch and let him sweeten up your life.

Rose
Rose is a Domestic Long Haired kitty who has overcome the odds. She came to the shelter as tiny kitten only weeks old. Rose battled illness, and with the will power and stubbornness of an ox, this little baby is well and has grown into a beautiful, 5 month old, young cat. Being a Dilute Calico, Rose has a pattern that is as unique as she is. Despite the hectic lifestyle all around her, she has kept a very calm demeanor and her spirits high. This sweet girl has been cooped up too long and dreams of a home where she can stretch her legs and fill your heart.
