Pets of the Week July 22, 2013

Luke
A “turn-key” dog if ever there was one! This two-year-old, black-and-white Border Collie/Lab mix, with copper-colored eyes, has all the best traits of each breed. He’s a quick learning, family loving, well-mannered Camp Good Dog graduate who scored top honors in every activity. Luke walks impeccably on a leash and is trained to sit and lie down. If you’re looking for a great indoor/outdoor, cat and kid friendly, family dog to be your walking buddy or your living room companion, Luke has those qualifications and more! Visit him at Camp Chinquapin for Critters at 115 Old Abbeville Hwy in Greenwood.

Carmel
Carmel is so-named because of the swirling honey, tan, and golden colors in her coat that make her look like the creamy candy treat. And it goes without saying that her personality is just as sugary sweet. This six-month-old mellow yellow kitty is exactly what the doctor ordered for anyone wanting a deliciously affectionate feline companion. You can visit Carmel at Petsmart located at 201 Hospitality Blvd. in Greenwood.

Pets of the Week July 15, 2013

Cash
If you had a dollar for every one of his handsome pale freckles you’d both be worth a million, but you can’t put a price on the warm, buoyant spirit of our exquisitely colored American Heeler/American Staffordshire terrier mix “Cash.” At 1 ½ years young he was a terrific match for the kids at Camp Good Dog, where he hugged and kissed without incident, always excited but ever gentle, trustworthy even with little ones. Cash enjoys other dogs but visibly thrives on your attention; he’s eager to please and a trainer’s dream. He can already sit, lay and shake hands for a treat, and proudly take your kids for a leash walk, too. (He also keeps his kennel really clean.) Cash’s perfect parent will give him exercise, enrichment, training and supervision and make sure he’s comfortable in his new home. Meet him and receive a kiss as soft as his coloring, then take him home and feel the heart-riches only our Cash can bestow.

Heidi
There’s a constant look of earnest concern on her heart-shaped face, but then being a smoky orange Velcro-cat is a worrisome task, especially if staying close to you is as important as it is to 3-year-old Heidi. Heidi was found stray, a slender, perceptive slip of a girl, spilling over with quiet affection and softly insistent meow-sounds (she’s a willing conversationalist and she punctuates with purrs.) Gentle Heidi’s kind to other cats too, her talent for friendship’s universal; she’s already spayed and ready to go home today. See how close a cat can stay without actually sticking to you, how sincere a soft green gaze can feel, and how happy you’ll be to have Heidi watch over you every single day.

Pets of the Week July 8, 2013

Clyde
He’s called “Clyde,” a name for a polished young black and white American Staffordshire mix prince; at one year old he’s full grown, compact at just 45 lbs., and so vibrantly athletic he seems to have his own built in steed. Clyde was adored by the kids at Camp Good Dog, he never outruns his own patience and he’s proud to learn too; he’ll screech to a halt to give a gentle kiss and a wag, sit for a treat, retrieve a tennis ball, walk beautifully with a harness, and kennel himself cooperatively when asked. (Clyde loves both you and treats — he’s a joy to train, and he enjoys other dogs, too.) Clyde was found stray but he’s already proven his flawless family dog status, we picture him in a home as lively and affectionate as he is, with kindergarten-aged kids and up, or simply a single person who’ll dedicate as much lifelong loyalty as Clyde himself. See how it feels to hug 45 lbs. of happiness, and how brightly a one-year-old prince named Clyde can shine.

Batman
He’s a declawed and neutered mystery man — big, strong and civilized, and he wears a black mask, too; but 2-year-old “Batman” isn’t busy fighting villains, he’s simply waiting for his new family to come along and take him back to the life he must surely have been accustomed to. Handsome Batman was turned in as a stray; he’s laid back, gets along easily with cats, seems fine with dogs, and is intelligently sociable with people. He’s more a conversationalist than a snuggler, but he enjoys keeping you close by, where he can defend you from wrongdoers, and that pesky boredom, too. Batman keeps his airy coat scrupulously clean and his space bat-cave tidy; and he’ll give you a warm double wink to show his sense of well-being when you pet him. If your home’s short a superhero Batman here’s to fill the bill; see how fun it is to play sidekick to very own gentleman avenger, and love him as if he never belonged to anyone but you.

Pets of the Week July 1, 2013

Bonnie
She’s the Kate Middleton version of an American Staffordshire Terrier mix — athletic, well-mannered and perennially pleasing, with one major difference; Kate’s tall and our one-year-old Princess Bonnie’s forever petite, full grown at only 33 lovely lbs., a black and white beauty no bigger than medium. Bonnie’s a recent graduate of our Camp Good Dog, where she thrived on the attention of kids aged 8-14, learned to “sit” and “lie down,” showed how gracefully she could run laps around the yard, and offered the gift of her non-stop smile, luscious pink tongue and all. Bonnie adores the dogs in her play group but knows when to be patient; she’s calm and wise for a young girl, guided by her own kind heart. A warm home with room to run, some lively kids or another pet would be just her cup of tea. Bonnie’s here and ready for you to rub her royal belly, see how much joy her sovereign friendship will bring.

Mama
Picture two tiny Luna moths in an ebony sky and you’ll know her face, but for all her stunning, long-haired good looks her name’s sweetly down home — simply “Mama.” At only three, Mama’s already had a busy life, she was turned in with an accidental litter of kittens, too many pets to care for; now she’s with us and starting fresh. She’ll come when you call her, and answer you too, savoring every stroke of your gentle petting, and swishing her exquisite, feathery tail with pleasure to show you how much your caress means to her. For now our smallish girl’s a little shy about being held, but her thrill at your attention’s there; she’s also a fine shelter citizen — a tidy box keeper, and tolerant of other cats, (dogs too). Look into her luminous green eyes and see Mama’s future, one in which her pristine affection will be prized and returned, in a home as loving as yours.

Pets of the Week June 24, 2013

Todd
He’s more a White Knight than a young Boxer mix — a strong, gorgeous, 2-years-young athlete, full of good will for you and everyone, ready to charge into your life full tilt and banish all thoughts of ho-hum pets forever. Todd was found lost, a gleaming, outgoing good guy with a soft pink smile; he’ll gallop around the yard, come flying when you call him, “sit” on command, and give you a gallant kiss, showing off his aristocratic build all the while. Todd loves water, rope toys, kids and most other dogs, too; he even likes cats. He needs room to run, a little shade and an attentive family who prizes his courtly-canine manners. If your home is your castle Todd would love to share your future; meet this shining young man and end your quest for the perfect dog today.

Dane
He’s a magnet of a cat, so charming he even sleeps adorably, flat on his back with his legs up and his paws curled in; but then our 1 ½ year old Dane’s just as beguiling when he’s awake — he’s alert, intelligent, lavishly handsome and utterly intrigued — with you. (Oh yes, he’s affectionate, too; he’ll rub his face over you with abandon, and you’ll only ask for more.) His silky tiger and white fur’s as enticing as his attention, you’ll need to sink your fingers in, no permission needed. Dane’s gentle and well-mannered, a fine choice for kids and other cats; he’s currently surrounded by females in his big cage (just friends mind you, he’s neutered) and all’s well. Feel the flattery of Dane’s intent gaze, then take him home and enjoy the everyday pull of his warm, fascinating, forever friendship.
