Justice Society of America #1 – Weekly Comic Pick

I will preface this week by saying I had a huge amount of comics to pick from. Including some old Invincible and Walking Dead. I am still of the opinion that Invincible by Robert Kirkman at Image is the best superhero comic out there with his Walking Dead title the best non-superhero book being published. That said…

Justice Society of America #1

Geoff Johns. ’nuff said. This man is one of the best writers in the business today. He is the best that DC has on exclusive contract. This book is amazing. It lets you know who the team is in this issue – not like Justice League of America. The characterizations on the established characters are right on. The new characters are interesting in their own little quirks. Especially Starman. :) This title sets up the inital arc greatly. the JSA is all about teaching the new generation of heroes how to be good. I do not want to give up too much plot – but this is an excellent jumping on point. I myself have never picked up any JSA titles in the past. This issue has made me add the title to my pull list.

Powers #21 – Weekly Comic Pick

Powers #21

A little late coming out (future issues should be better) and definitely not for kids. This was by far my favorite title released this week. I do not want to give too much away, except to say that we learn more about the death of Queen Noire’s husband and a conspiracy heading in an unexpected direction. If you are not picking up this title, you should be. At least, hit my store and pick up the trades. They are worth every penny.

52 Week 29 – Weekly Comic Pick

52 week 29
Why 52 this week? Well my LCS has not received their shipments of the latest Invincible or Walking Dead yet. Nor even Birds of Prey #100. So, of the 5 titles I picked up this week, 52 was the best. We see a what the remaining members of the JSA, including Obsidian, think of Infinity, inc and it’s newest member, Jade. That’s right Jade. A girl with green hair and plant based powers in the Original Jade’s costume. Needless to say, this upsets Alan Scott and Obsidian (father and brother to the original Jade respectively) quite a bit. We also see a bit more of the Mad Scientist plot on Egg Fu’s island. Will Magnus’ pills are finally taken away from him. Instead of a 2-page origina story this week, we get a 2-page epilogue to the Steel/Luthor story. Luthor’s Everyman Powers come with an expiration date. As Steel’s new metal covering has started peeling off on it’s own.

Robin #156 – Weekly Comic Pick

Robin 156 “The High Dive”

More of a quiet and reflective issue this month. But still one of the best issues since One Year Later. We get to see how Robin feels about his life after spending one year trying to get his stuff together. From his feelings of guilt over Cassandra and Dodge, Tim ends up helping a young man on a rooftop preparing to commit suicide. Even better we see him take his own advice as the comic ends when he gives Nightwing a call to talk over the issues in his life.

Heroes

If you missed Heroes tonight, you HAVE to catch it Friday night at 7pm est. on Sci-Fi. This episode brought us more info on Hiro, Claire’s Father (is he good or evil…it may not be as black and white as all that), Isaac, Mohinder, Matt, and we see some Syler (sp?). Ok, he is still in shadow. We learn a little more about the Radioactive Man and other heroes are introduced. Nothing on Niki or DL this week. Which I did not miss in the slightest.

Next week promises to be a major plot point in the Save the Cheerleader. Save the World plot.

If you have not stopped by NBC’s page. Go there now. You can check out the online comics that give a little more info into characters than we see in the show, and you can check out Hiro’s Blog. Go to http://www.nbc.com/Heroes.
