Starring: Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rose Leslie, Michael Yare, Toby Jones, Chris Sullivan, Boyd Holbrook, Vinette Robinson, Michelle Yeoh, Brian Cox, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Paul Giamatti

Lee Weathers (Kate Mara) is a Risk-Mangement Consultant for a company performing genetic experiments. She comes to a remote site where the specimen, Morgan (Anya Taylor-Joy), injured a staff member. It is Lee’s job to work with Dr. Shapiro (Paul Giamatti) to determine if the specimen is still viable or needs to be destroyed. As one would expect, Morgan goes on a rampage due to some of Dr. Shapiro’s questioning.

TL;DR Was a predictable formula, but an enjoyable watch

Spoilers ahead.

First the positives. I loved the performances in this movie. From Rose Leslie’s strong attachment to Morgan to Morgan’s detached approach, all actors dd an excellent job with their roles.

For the negatives. The story was very predictable. The twist was apparent early on in the film even before they tried to drop some hints in. It was obvious that Lee was an earlier version of the experiments that produced Morgan almost from the get-go. The story was very by-the-numbers and one we have seen time and time again.

Now I am not saying it is a bad thing for a story to follow a template, just that I would rather not see those in a broadly released theatrical movie. I would rather find those in VOD or streaming sites.
